Norton Internet security 2012, should I buy it?

I've been using Avast anti virus, I bought a year ago from the through internet. My subscription of this software will expire in 12 days and I've been informed by a few individuals who claim that Avast is not the best anti virus software. I think they are right because the last time I scanned by pc about 20 files couldn't be scanned after the scanning was done. I also suspect that those files are malicious software?

I've been told that AGV, Norton and BitDefender are the best?

What anti virus software do you advice I purchase?
 
Stay away from AVG, Norton is ok, Bitdefender is pretty good, Eset is also good. Also the reason 20 files couldn't be scanned by avast is probably use to the being system files, password protected ect. Nothing wrong with Avast if you are happy with it then just stay with it.
 
Norton is definitely better than it used to be, but it is still not out of the woods yet.
Personally I would not buy it yet.
If you absolutely have to buy something, get NOD32 or Kaspersky.
 
Spend nothing & take a 30 day trial of a few till your happy with 1.
Eset smart security here - used for 2 years & renewed for another 2 so happy enough with it.
 
I hear Norton puts the viruses it found back onto your computer when you uninstall it.

Use Avast Free Edition, or pay for AVAST, I have been using it for 3 years now, it works like a well oiled machine :)

Not so sure about Norton putting back viruses but I highly recommend Eset Nod32. Microsoft Security Essentials is the best of the free ant-virus packages available in my opinion.

You dont purchase.Avast ftw.
 
No - in my experience Norton tries to do too much with firewall blocking and whatnot and is a PITA to configure if (when) it decides to go bonkers and sommer block things.

Use MS Security Essential (free) or eSET Nod32 (paid) - both very lightweight.

I have personal experience with both (Nod on my PC, MSE on the kids) and (touch wood) no problems in 4 years.
