Not all uncapped fair use policies are created equal

Telkom FUP FTW!

I go my first ever FUP Level 1 notice on the last day of Dec (holidays and all), took a priority pass so zero impact and next day was Jan so it fell away. Value for money wise it's a great product compare to the rest, free phone calls, mobile data etc

Great article though it is missing 1 aspect, (may not be with all the ISP's though) does the FUP include their midnight to morning usage?
for example In December my total usage on Telkom (10Mbps) was just over 1Tb but I didn't even hit the FUP Level 1 - my Night was around 650Gb

I've exceeded Afrihosts 80GB threshold on 4Mb, and I'm still getting my full line speed. All other issues aside, I really can't complain about the performance of their low-end packages.

I am happy with Telkom's new FUP system. Throttling only happens at a certain time interval. I am looking at the other ISP's and damn they are harsh.

MTN One Day Uncapped bundle (R79) – FUP of 20MB, throttled to 128kbps.

On mine the FUP would repeatedly just kick in immediately, even when my own records said I had used much less (one time I got a message before I had even connected!). It then throttled to 64kbps (or less) so was basically unusable

FUP's, for me at least, creates healthy competition in the ISP market. It would seem that "less popular" ISPs typically have no or generous FUPs compared to the likes of Afrihost which can be a draw card.

The Telkom LTE FUP is no good to me. I usually hit it in the middle of the month. Then by the 20th I'm on 2Mb/s.

This is with a family of 4 where we stream all our entertainment.

I've taken to checking my usage every day on the router because I use it for my work. Streaming is definitely a FUP killer.

Yup. YouTube and Netflix will just take everything it can get.

i have no issues with Crystal Webs Free time package or whatever its called... streaming works great. 150GB's between 6 and midnight is okay for me, and then uncapped from midnight to 6pm.
