Not enough locals exploring SA - Tourism Minister

Simple;

1 - Our tourist destinations are geared towards foreign tourists, in other words 'expensive'.
2 - Our sh*tlord government insists on doing everything in its power to stuff our economy up, which means our rands get us less and less as the price of everything - including fuel - goes up.

1 + 2 = We cannot afford to enjoy our own country.

Not my best trip - I was designated driver, and a running supporter - so spent most the time as a Uber. Still pretty sure the supporters have it worse than the runners.

True but foreigners compete for places with locals in Kruger. Result? You gotta book months and months ahead to get what you want-

The problem is defintely the lack of South African Disneyworlds..

Well, probably crime & bad service too, but mostly the absence of Mickey Mouse & related.

This. Every single tourist attraction prices itself for foreign visitors with an advantageous exchange rate. This means locals are priced out entirely. We are not wanted. Prices do not cater for locals. Fix that and the petrol price and the state of the roads and the crime and maybe...
 
I spent money on home entertainment, so that I don't have to leave the house. Only reason to leave house is to drive to the local liquor store, butcher and work. Wood get's delivered.
If I want to check out tropical destinations, I'd youtube it.

Did you notice the receipt books ? A scam of note taking place there and at the other nearby "attractions" too.

I do agree with Thor on the crime thing, death sentence for anyone caught and convicted for certain categories of crime at a identified tourist locations.

You and your government have fked the country up, service is shyte, racism is rife and crime is everywhere and it's just accepted by you.
People are terrified when out of the security of their homes and even in their homes.
It only took you 20 and a bit years but you are doing a great job so far in making SA a 4th world country.
 
I'll second sanparks. We stayed in the Golden gate park hotel, was pretty decent and cheapish
 
Yup everything is priced for foreigners, last year I took the family to the beach, it was 3 of us for about 4 days and I spent easily 15k just for the three of us to do things. The year before it was a small game reserve out in Bella Bella area and that's only because friends gave us their accommodation for free and still managed to spend about 6k.
This year unfortunately it's remain-here as my little one is now following normal school holidays and things go from expensive to ridiculously expensive over the school holidays, so I try to take him to places like Sci-Bono Discovery center in town, or the Rand society of Model engineers, or the War museum, things that aren't badly priced still. Cannot believe they are now charging to go to Bourkes pot holes, was in Mpumalanga for my honeymoon and the area is amazing, but we didn't have to pay to see the views, okay no we did have to pay R5 for the Pinnacle.
