Not enough RAM for a Game... what do i do???

Please help me! I want to buy the Sims 3, and I own a MacBook with 1GB of RAM, but for the sims 3 i need 2GB minimum, it says. I have all the other specifications, just the RAM :confused:. Will it be possible to play the sims 3 with 1GB RAM, or will i need to upgrade it- and if I do, what is the easiest, quickest and cheapest way to do that. I live in the UK if that helps anyone currency and company wise.

Help from anyone would be much appreciated!!! Thanks
 
..well easiest is to buy more RAM? It's actually quite painless to add more on a laptop, just buy it , open the memory panel on the bottom, slot it in...off you go?

So your real question should be "where can i get 1GB ram for cheap" ? ;) Shop Around?

As for the Sims 3's actual requirements, 2GB does sound kind hectic as a "minimum", sounds like a "recommended".

can i play the sims 3 with the amount of RAM i have, or will i have to buy more ram? it's just that i don't really want to splash out on lots of cash on something that isnt entirely necessary
 
the needed amount of Ram is one thing that you can't not have when it comes to games ...... pony up and upgrade.
 
You NEED more ram. It isn't a luxury. 1 gb is not enough for anything these days.
 
It seems like there is kind of mixed opinions about this RAM thing. Could I just buy the game and see how it is, then if i need more RAM, buy more RAM.

And another question... how much would it be, roughly, to upgrade to 2GB RAM?
 
You can install the game. I don't think it wil lrefuse to run if you don't have 2Gb on your mac. Problem is that the game will slow down a lot when you enter areas that require that memory, like the neighbourhood with all the homes and sims running around.
 
Graphics Card

Sorry, but i need to ask something else...

My Graphics Card: I have an Intel GMA X3100, with built in "Bus" (whatever that is) and 144MB total VRAM, and Vendor: Intel (0x8086)... Could someone please check out the Mac requirements and see if these things I have - graphics wise - are all right. I have no idea what all this stuff is, just recently found out what RAM was... All i wanted to do was play a game on my laptop :confused: :(, lol

Get the RAM man - Not sure about apple RAM, but PC RAM is dirt cheap - and it will make everything else faster too - not just the game.

AFAIK you need laptop sized RAM.

Btw, could you tell me a good place where i can buy, cheap-ish, reliable and good service RAM from... like good sites i mean. I live in the UK so preferably one from the UK as I dont want to have to pay for shipping too?

Just make sure you know what speed your Mac supports before you go buying the wrong speed... cos if you buy too high, you waste money as you're forcing your new RAM to run at a lower speed (that of your existing RAM). Buy too low and you're forcing your existing RAM to run at a lower speed.

Oh and I don't think it's advisable to buy non-Apple RAM for an Apple machine...

Sell your apple and buy a pc! Apple is sh*t... Who do not agree with me? Google your mother board of your apple it is probly a intel set, but check what ram it takes, when you buy ram they must be the same size and type and speed for best performance vs. Errors and hang ups. Use the new google sqaure to check for ram sellers in your area or go to a pc shop? The thing is WE ARE DOWN UNDER, how would we know other than to google for a price in your area, can you not google it your self? No apples in S.A rly..

Click on the Apple logo, top left.
Choose "About this mac"
then "more info"
then "memory"

Alternatively phone Digicape or an iStore and ask them what ram it uses.

digicape can install generic ram for you, iStore probably won't.

X
