Nothing cool about Cuil

Interesting layout. I am sure with the technical knowledge these guys have it will get better.

The Internet has grown exponentially in the last fifteen years but search engines have not kept up—until now. Cuil searches more pages on the Web than anyone else—three times as many as Google and ten times as many as Microsoft.
. This comes from www.cuil.com.... I think Google actually works three times better. Not saying anything about Micro$oft.

Google wins hands down. Cuil may have a lot of pages, but when searching for South Africa related terms Cuil does not find the best web pages. It has a fresh design, but the 1990s results.

just before the launch article was published in MyADLS, I read in the official google blog that there are many pages they don't index, because they are not useful to searchers. they mention a calendar as an example... so what if you index October 2048, there is nothing of use there? google is also good a filtering out duplicate results.

they have a long way to go if they want to compete with google/msn/yahoo.

a name is just a name... if i ever wanted to find them again, i would just google for google competitor site:mybroadband.co.za and I'm sure I'll find this post.

Cuil doesn't have the security warnings that Google has. If I didn't know what I was doing, I would have been caught by XP Antivirus 2008 malware and a trojan....and no I wasn't searching for P*rn...

Terrible site... the results are crappy despite being in a different format. And it's not exactly friendly to search for images.

they'll sort their lives out, and i mean with that much exposure in their first couple of days, theyll already onto a winner

What's in a Name? Better Not Ask Cuil

Seeing as how new search engine Cuil.com is, well, a search engine, its founders might have known that people could easily check online the company's claim that the word "cuil" means "knowledge" in Irish. Because, in fact, it doesn't.

Members of an online Irish language forum have been discussing the word and the company's claims of its definition. They say the word is most often translated to mean "corner" or "nook," but has sometimes been used for "hazel," as in the nut.

Cuil launched in July 2008 as a worlds biggest search engine. They said Cuil searches more pages on the Web than anyone else, three times as many as Google and ten times as many as Microsoft. Even though Cuil started with much hype, it fails to have big traffic.

Most find that the reason for fail is its poor performance. You can clearly see the Cuil traffic goes down to the death line from Google Trends and Alexa graphs shown below.

If you gonna play with the big boys, you better have something really amazing! :D
