Notre Dame on fire

London still takes the cake with the Great Fire. It is suspected even today it was deliberately set on fire by people wanting to build new structures in London and do away with all the old. I think it was king James (history a little fuzzy) that warned Londoners for years that the city was a tinderbox about to explode.
I think the great Chicago fire of 1871 tops the London fire of 1666...

Even in my countryside house, we should have at least 3 or 4 that are suitable (not sure if it’s oak though but the size would match).

Very interesting reading thanks.

So seems there are French tress that will do they job, they just need to be located and made available,

But not immediately -

"To build a stock of oak of this quality, in sufficient quantity, it will take several years,"

Yes, I guess that anyway the engineering will take at least a year if not more.

Notre Dame... a catholic cathedral.... to some degree it's a shame that there is old and beautiful art in there that has been destroyed but then again it is a catholic church. If their god exists, then the burning of the church must be the wish of that god. If that is the case, then none of what has happened can be viewed as a tragedy.

In my opinion, notre dame is one of many shrines to NOTHING more than child molestation. I would feel the same indifference I feel now if the whole of the vatican burned down with ALL the catholic priests and relics in it. I hope its arson and I hope it was perpetrated as revenge by someone who suffered at the hands of the catholic church. I hope they come forward and admit it. I would like to see that debate.

As for the people who have donated money to restore it, they disgust me. I don't understand why you would need to donate money to one of the richest organisations in the world. Imagine if they cared enough to donate that money to people who actually need it. in addition to that, every cent you give to the catholic church is a statement that you support child molestation.
Another emotional outburst based on complete ignorance...

Also the wood will have to be cured/"dried" and as you say "engineered", which takes ages on that scale, especially where wood has to be bent, curved and shaped.

A long and carefuly managed process, I'm sure.

3 guesses on who's already planning a 10 year documentary re. this restoration:
