We did it for Reims and Nantes' cathedrals.

That is what was left of the roof at Reims:

Reims actually has the same engineering than ND, a stone nave roof and on top a wooden frame and a tin/lead roof.

What they did in Reims was to rebuild the wooden frame in concrete (which was an engineering achievement in the 1920s).

What a mess. Could have been a lot worse. Still this will take years to repair.
 
They should clean it up and charge people 500 Euros to tour the wreckage

i am just highlighting that through this tragedy, there is going to be people who use it to push a horrible agenda, and not soon after sharing my post, a forumite came on and started posting about the very thing i mentioned.

it is not about justifying beliefs or anyone being better, it is just being aware that there is a lot of fake news popping up and to be mindful of it

Replicating and restoring buildings is not a new thing in Europe, after WW2 there were a number of building that were restored magnificently from literaly rubble and shells

Royal Castle, Warsaw (rubble)
Benedictine Abbey of Monte Casino (rubble)
Cologne Cathedral (heavy damage)
Konigsberg Cathedral (burnt out shell)
St.Gervais Church , Falaise (heavily damaged)

to name just a few.

Restoring that must have been a feat in itself. The allies fiercely bombarded that place. I remember seeing footage after days of bombardment and the entire Abbey itself was just this mound of dust and fractured rubble.

Beautiful. Pitty the Allieds bombed it for nothing. They claim the Germans were holed up in there but the Germans claim that Kesselring ordered them to stay away from the place. Other Germans claim that German's were looting it and carted off some precious items to Goering for his birthday and the rest of the stash to the Vatican. The Allieds claimed that it was a preventative measure to stop the German's using it as a lookout and artillery post.

Lots of claims and he said, she said. I remember it was in World at War they were discussing it. Anyway such is war, lots of confusion and chaos.

It looks superb. Would love to visit.
