I am of the opinion that buildings are art too. The loss of that beautiful building is a tragedy. I have never been there - and likely will never. But it is still a loss.What I'm reading is that the nave (so the artworks) is separated from the fire area (which is a roof supported by wooden beams) by a wooden ceiling.
The cardinal does not seem too worried about the inside.
The firemen said that the priority is to protect the artwork.
Luckily, the 16 copper statues on the roof were taken out last week before the renovations could start.
