Deben...
It would be interesting to see everybody tell us what their ISP's are charging asof Nov 1st to determine who's got the best Deal.

I'm with South Africa Online (SAOL) - this is what they sent me :

01GB SHAPED, - R69 (only available after you're capped)
02GB SHAPED, - R169
05GB SHAPED, - R299 (What i was paying for 30Gigs... :( )
10GB SHAPED, - R349 (for what it is, looks good)

01GB UNSHAPED, - R129
04GB UNSHAPED, - R499 (Unchanged)
10GB UNSHAPED, - R999

Current 30Gig accounts will be set to the 2GB shaped account automatically as of November 1st. a Hard cap will come into effect once you reach your limit. :(

SAOL contact number : 0861007265

SO WHO'S ISP'S OFFER BETTER ???

These prices are not as bad as I thought. I will take the 10gigs.

The whole 30Gig Local, 3Gig International Crap sounds SAD. sorry SAOL still sounds better!

Come on Guys, Anybody with better ???

^^^

it's great for people who d/l mostly from local torrent/ftp/p2p!

plus you aren't CAPPED once you reach 3gb - your international bandwidth is THROTTLED to 64k.

plus i'd rather take the extra 30gb if it's for free?

plus it's cheaper than SAOL..?

lol ;)

This is on the WebAfrica forums by WAMATT. I hope they can acually leave the price's as is...... I WISH!!!!!

Will you be changing your prices for November?
It is not clear at this stage.

Why can't you release pricing?
Because there is a likelyhood that we may preserve current pricing.

When wil I be informed of this?
As soon as we have clarity.

Will I automatically be billed for November if the prices change?
No.

Will you be price competitive with the other ISPs?
Agressively so.

What are you doing for the consumer?
We are in still in meetings daily regarding the situation. We have already pursued a few avenues (litigation, ICASA, ISPA, alternate suppliers).

What about the 30day notice?
Web Africa does not require 30 day notice on any ADSL products. Notice must be given before end of each month should you wish to cancel. This may be done online (client area), via email or telephone. One caveat: Debit orders are prepared around the 25th thus if you cancel after that and you on debit order you will be refunded.

How does a Monthly billing work?
You are billed every month until you cancel. You do not need to request a service each month.

What if I want it just for one month?
Order and cancel anytime during the month. You account will be cancelled but still still active until the end of the month.

Just gpt this in an email from MWEB:

Dear MWEB Member
Good News!! We are delighted to inform you that with effect from 1 November your MWEB ADSL subscription will be decreasing from R329 to R299 per month.

At the same time Telkom will implement a 'hard-cap' policy, which will result in all Internet access stopping once your cap is reached. This affects all Internet services, i.e. browsing (local and international), e-mail, ftp etc. This should not affect the majority of our members, who generally operate within the limits of their current product cap.

it is?

OpenWeb:
Raw ADSL Accounts, without Local Proxy Access:
2GB including 30GB Local Cap: R175 per month
3GB including 30GB Local Cap: R199 per month
5GB including 30GB Local Cap: R360 per month
10GB including 30GB Local Cap: R699 per month

SAOL (according to this thread):
01GB SHAPED, - R69 (only available after you're capped)
02GB SHAPED, - R169
05GB SHAPED, - R299
10GB SHAPED, - R349

AT the end of the day, it works out cheaper. On SAOL, once you have reached your cap, your account will be cut off. You will no longer be able to access the internet.

OpenWeb will still allow you access to the net plus unshaped access to local sites.

When I had a 56K , it was cost/time that kept me off the internet,
When I had ISDN, it was cost/time that kept me off the internet,
now with DSL, its cost/GB that keeps me off the internet.

Where is the diference ?

Hello Guys, the way I see it is that for the price of Openwebs' 10GB account, I can get 20 Gigs of International access from SAOL.Com. I would much rather have quality browsing than 30Gigs of local access!

What do you think?

It really depends on what your uses are marko... if you download from local stuff then I would go for the OpenWeb offering. Otherwise, SAOL seems to be cheaper (int. only + hard cap)

yip, it is indeed.

2gb = R169
extra 1gb, available after you're capped = R69

R169 + R69 = SAOL 3gb is R238

OpenWeb is R199 for 3gb + 30gb local..

cheaper!

lol, I hope you're kidding

number one: when you think of ADSL you must think at least 30 GB a month (I know Telkom tries its best to condition us but pleaaaaase)

number two: the so called 'soft cap' : once you're capped you get the oh so generous 64k - just another joke brougth to you by Telkom

number three: 30GB of local - muhahahaha, doing what????
this site is the ony .co.za I ever visit, so here's my math:

OpenWeb:
30GB 3*699 = R 2097.00 a month

SAOL:
30GB 3*349 = R 1047.00 a month

of course it all depens on what you need/want but for me (and I guess couple of other folks) R 2097.00 a month is not the best option, I'd rather go Sentech or find some other reseller

I'd love to see their (OpenWeb's) OpenBROWSE product though, that might make me feel a bit better, but can't really comment on that before I see their prices.
