Now phone lines stolen

60 metres of cable valued at R15000? R250/metre street value, which I take to mean scrap value? What kind of cables are these? How much do they cost new?

use them as substitutes for electricity cables! :D they can all hold hands when you turn on the 10 Kilovolts! ;)

From what I've heard, copper mining in Zambia and the Congo, is very erratic, and with diesel costing ZAR20+ per litre in Zambia, very expensive to transport the ore and copper sheets.

anyone who steals from telkom is great in my books!! i dont care look how they steal from you guys..

Are you out of your tree! No matter how we hate Telkom's pricing and lack of service in certain areas, that is no reason and there never will be for supporting crime that targets them or anyone else for that matter.

Remember innocent people are affected here, how does my local hospital keep in contact with doctors and patients without Telkom cabling.

Supporting crime is the downfall of a society.

I might not like Telkom, but we need our ADSL nevertheless... so shoot these buggers in the kneecaps and let them go... they won't be climbing phone poles again :D

I am, not sure where this guy gets his figures, but it is WAY off. 1kg of clean copper will fetch R75"scrap. 15000/75=200kg for 60 meters? 200/60=3.33kg/m That must be huge cables.

I guess he wanted to say the replacement value of the cable is R15000.
