20 billion queries in a single day!

http://www.opendns.com/newsletter/?issue=2009_12

Last week — for the first time in our history — we answered more than 20 billion DNS queries in a single 24 hour period. Twenty billion queries. That more than doubles the total number of queries we answered as recently as April 2009 when we announced we'd hit the 10 billion milestone. And we've never had downtime.
This is an extremely positive indication for us, as it points to the increasing demand for a rock-solid, reliable DNS service that not only makes your Internet faster and more reliable, but safer and smarter, too. We now have 15 million users around the world. More than 25,000 schools choose us to keep their kids safe online. And businesses of all sizes are switching in droves to OpenDNS.
Thanks to everyone for helping us achieve this awesome milestone.

Hmm.. interesting, but why should I use Open DNS? And why is it safer, smarter, faster and more reliable?

And if their DNS servers are hosted internationally, won't that make my internet service slower, than say using Afrihost's DNS servers on my Afrihost ADSL package?

Oh, and is it free?

There is a free package, I believe the smarter bit is you can opt for dsn queries to unwanted sites to redirect somewhere else.

Free DSN Settings:
DNS 1: 208.67.222.222
DNS 2: 208.67.220.220
