You can book now by clicking on the poster below!

The tickets are R29.50 normally.

Do you have to bring a student card to qualify for this massive saving? :o

For everyone. But I think its just at ster kinnekor actually, not 100% sure though

I paid R19 at Ster Kinekor Kenilworth to see The Dark Knight.
I think they're the cheapest of the lot :)

ya, ster kinekor it is...

There is one at Cavendish but the two closest to me (Waterfront and Canal Walk) are both still Nu Metro, which is R29.50 a ticket :(

Then Im not too sure....
Discovery card? Not sure how that works though, dont have Discovery anything.

I am with Discovery Vitality and got a special vitality SK card, R16 for a movie anytime at Classic.

That is SK, hey? And how many tickets can you buy for R16?

Yes for SK, this card is valid for my purchase only or that's how it should be. But when I applied for this Discovery SK card their webcam there was 'broken' so they could not capture my photo and print it on the card, so my card doesn't have any photo and my friend can use it too(suspect won't work for same movie at the same time slot).

I have got another platinum SK card.

I live in the South ... so we go to Southgate Ster Kinekor. :p

Only white ppl there... but what the hey :D

Tickets are R10... R8 with our discovery cards...

Cinemas are usually never even a third full.

Eats and drinks are a complete rip-off though!

I dont care what their sign says at the door... I smuggle my own drinks and snacks in. Otherwise I would not even be buying a ticket.

I agree about the food-smuggling.

I hide my stuff pretty well nowadays. I'll be damned if I am gonna pay their crazy prices for nibbles. R9 for a 500ml bottle of WATER. I think not.

Nu Metro Cinemas is proving once again how we're more entertaining by launching Student Night at six Nu Metro Cinemas venues around the country at the end of July, offering students movies, drinks and more!

The first event will kick off next Tuesday, 29 July 2008 at participating Nu Metro Cinemas - with a première screening of The X-Files: I Want to Believe. Students at the Montecasino event will also have the opportunity to meet some of the band members of the foremost South African rock outfit, Prime Circle. The band’s latest album, All Or Nothing, will also be introduced at all participating cinemas as a lead up to their national launch on 30 July.

So you get to relax away from college and socialise with your mates - and see the latest Hollywood movies before release, at a reduced price of R 25! But you gotta have popcorn and a drink, right? So we're also offering a Student Combo at R 25! We guarantee you that these nights will be filled with lots of fun, entertainment and great giveaways. Participating cinemas:

Johannesburg: Montecasino
Pretoria: Menlyn Park
Durban: The Pavilion
Cape Town: Canal Walk
Bloemfontein: Loch Logan
Port Elizabeth: Walmer Park

If you book online for Student Night on July 29th, we're giving away a fabulous winter trip to Tiffindell Ski Resort for you and three of your friends!*

*Terms and conditions apply. The trip has to be taken during the last two weeks in August 2008.

So you see, it represents not just a discounted ticket price, but a value-added offering - for students only. I'm guessing that this forum may not be predominantly composed of that demographic.

I understand that SK regards each of their venues in a two-tier system. The 'Classic' cinemas will have you pay R 45,00 for a single ticket, while the 'Junction' sites are substantially less. Add to that the Discovery discount (applies to members of Discovery Vitality only - monthly fee) and the Edgars discount (applies to members of th Edgars Club only - monthly fee), and you have price points all over the place.

Nu Metro Cinemas doesn't tier its sites - there is one price across the board, R 29,50, which was reduced from the R 42,00 price point back when 'discount clubs' were deemed too confusing.

As for this particular promotion, Student Night: It is an offering to students that represents both a student discount, and a substantial value-added event. If you're not a student, sorry, it's not for you :D And, while Nu Metro doesn't tier its sites, the Student Night events will be hosted at the top site in each region.

As a parting note, there is a lot of complaining about movie ticket prices in South Africa, even though the most expensive tickets you can get (R 45,00 at Ster-Kinekor Classic cinemas) are way below what people from other Western economies are paying for the same product.

I hope that clears up some confusion. I'm sure not everyone will be satisfied with this response, but there it is.

Without bringing SK into it like above, I think what people are saying is your normal price is R29.50 per ticket YET you advertise this as such a good deal for only R4.50 less? Then on the pop corn and coke price of R25, don't you have a combo 2 or 4 (i'm not sure) where you get 2 regular pop corn and 2 large cokes for R38? We always go for that.

So apart from the "prize" you stand to win, what's so special about this considering that I am not a student so if me and my partner go on Tuesday we will pay R97 in total whereby 2 students will pay R100 in total?
Perhaps the price for the "combo" I refer to above is not accurate but even so it's not that big a deal

At Canal Walk Nu Metro i pay R12 a movie and at N1 City R8 a movie. N1 City mall is the cheapest. I have a momentum card - so i qualify for a cheaper rate - but even if you dont use your card - N1 is still the cheapest i think at R12 a movie.
