Tried it out last night, works great.

OpenVPN locked my system up once or twice but it seems to be happier now. ;)

Results

Ok, I signed up yesterday.

Torrents - Torrents seem to max out at 20kB or so, probably because of iBurst's limiting on the number of connections. This is insanely better than the 2kB I got before though.

Normal surfing, HTTP downloads, FTP, etc - no chance, feels slightly slower than before actually.

DC++ - not working. All connections are getting refused, I cannot search, etc. This is rather sad as this is the main protocol that I would have wanted to use on this. Maybe I can tweak something still to get it to work.

Gaming - did not try, my pings have always been acceptable even when capped.

Overall - I am sort of in two minds about this. For torrents it is still faster for me to use torrentflux with 200kB down to the remote box, then 60kB to my machine, compared to the 20kB straight to my machine. Of course, torrentflux costs money though, so the "free" aspect counts for something. I download enough torrents that the extra R100 a month is well spent though. If I can get DC++ to work through this, I will be sold. Currently I am getting below 1kB download speeds and if I can pump that up to 20 I will be a happy boy. If I can't, I probably won't convert, but just fire it up now and then when I want a small torrent file.

Still, it's a cool service and congrats to Clipse for running this. This is going to solve a lot of people's problems. And the more options the better after all
 
I've been using FreeProxy since Beta. I don't do online gaming, but P2P (LimeWire) gave 20KB+, Torrents (BitLord) maxed my connection. Now that I'm capped (as of last night) I'm getting full 8KB - regardless of what I do.

Thanks Clipse. This connection was miserable before FreeProxy. I just never knew it. ;)
 
Had to add a "1" after my name when I registered as it said the user name already existed. :confused:

Yo bishop, please mail me, there is no reason for dc++ not to work, as you can read from our feedback thread, it works for everyone who posted there.
 
Hey Clipse, could you ease up on the 256k speed limit pls :D

I'm trying to catch up with my downloads but I get a max of 32Kb/s. I'm not b1tching, just gimme a chance. I signed up for one of your packages but it seems like there's not much interest since I'm one of only 2 people that signed up. Or am I looking at the wrong thread?

There is no limit yet rebel, that is simply the max you get for various reasons, perhaps iburst related, and coincidentally also 256k lol

I can assure you we havnt placed any limitation on the free service at all.

Re: the other packages, dont worry bout that, users will come with time and we wont put any restrictions in place before we actually make the other packages available.
 
Been new to this I need to ask if it will slow down my normal downloads from international sites?

I ask this as it seemed a bit slower when I first tried freeproxy, and I do not know if it's related but my PC locked up totally while trying to browse this forum.

Here again I'm only asking since this PC has never locked up before running XP.

I'm not knocking the system this is purly a query.
 
Fair question, regarding locking up, that shouldnt happen at all and there is no reason for the client to cause that.

Regarding browsing, all international traffic will go via freeproxy and local traffic will not go via freeproxy.

HTTP based downloads may or may not be faster/slower, so far the gains is purely related to p2p,ftp(aswell),more stable international ping in games like wow, gw, eve, starwars galaxies, to name a few.

Unfortunately atm there is no way to differentiate between http traffic or not, it purely uses the international ip assignments to differentiate between local or international.

Locked up again, and when i say locked up I mean everything including mouse,kb and screen.
The only way out is to pull the power plug.

Maybe I'm doing something wrong, but I followed the install instructions and everything seemed to be ok.

One thing though is that I am running ZoneAlarm and I allowed Freeproxy "Trusted" network status.
 
Clipse - thanks for a great product - installed it last night. torrents are going like crazy - I love it.

Now the next part is amazing:
I accidentally logged onto a German server hosting BF2 - played for a bout 10min before realising that I was not on a SGS server, that is how smooth it was.

woah - now thats great news and yah that can happen, with the client tucked away you can forget sometimes that its actually running and your international access is via our server ;-)
 
I'm going to have to figureout why it locks me up, has to be something that it's clashing with somewhere, somehow, but as yet I have not figured it out.
Can't be ZoneAlarm as I shut that down and still locking up.

Without FreeProxy loaded I am not getting lockups.

Does FreeProxy have any issues with SP1?

If anyone has an idea as to what it could be please reply.
 
MrH - we have alot of 2000,xp sp1 and sp2 users, there is no reason for it to lockup, all I can think its a combination of your XP installation and the client then.

Do you have another pc to test it on?
 
Had the same thing, the second the openvpn client starts you cannot start anymore apps in windows, there seems to be a bug in the version.

I got around it by launching my required apps first and then starting openvpn, easy to do since I use a dedicated box for downloading etc.

Its erratic though, does not always lock things up!
 
Hmm this long shot but so far 2 users with iburst getting this, you and mrh.. Ya sounds unlikely but maybe related to something ibursty?

I havnt had any other reports until now from you 2 iburst users getting this problem, in reality I recon its the mass routing table addition causing the problems with some pc's but in todays world machines should be fast enough ;-)

We are working on an international routing system that wouldnt kill the xp routing table particulary.
 
My main PC is a P4 3.2 with 2gb ram and the second PC I tried it on is a P4 2.8 with 1gb ram with SP2, funny thing is they both lock up.

I am going through a router could that make a difference?
 
Every adsl users practicly use a router aswell, if both machines lock up, Im starting to think that perhaps its iburst related..

Then again, look at quaddamage and rebel, both on iburst and not locking up. So this is a bit of a tricky situation, will havta investigate and find out from more users reporting lockups.
 
Ok thanks, but are quaddamage and rebel going through routers or not?

The only thing the 2 PCs' have in commom here is the router.
 
No - I am connected directly through Ethernet. I have no issues of locking up. I don't think it is iburst (except for my disconnections).

I think it might be your router or a software clash.
