Nvidia 8600GT in SA?

I would be interested to hear what the 8500 will go for. Is it custom to release the top end of the series first and then go down from there?

Those are Gigabyte cards, so I'm seeing good price drops on budget brands.

Okay.. so the benchmarks, wtf? The card is hardly even worth the price, especially if the old hardware starts falling. It better at least be good at DX 10.

Jip. They need lower that price else I can't see them selling many of these 8600 gts's. The 320 bit card will cream this card in any game.
 
I cant get any proper reviews of the 8500GT except THIS vague overview which mentions "its performance is slightly better than the current GeForce 7600 GS series". Which is a bit disappointing... :(
 
Yup just finished reading a couple of reviews of the 8600GTS and 8600GT. Well what can I say they look like a complete waste of money. If you don't have the extra R500 - R700 for a 320meg 8800GTS then go buy an ATi 1950X Pro card they perform better than the 8600GTS in the vast majority of synthetic and game benches.

Oh yeah and the whole its DX10 capable is a mute point. These cards don't look like they will ever be anywhere near powerful to run DX10 games at decent resolutions if at all when the eventually come out.

One point though if you want a card for a media centre pc the 8500 looks interesting as it includes the new VP2 processor (like the rest of the 8600 series) for video decoding which should take a lot of the processing off of the cpu and it'll be quiet! :D
 
Sad :( I was looking forward to getting one of these.

I hope ATI releases decent mid range cards when they get around to releasing their R600s at all :/
 
Well Crysis is supposed to be coming out soon?? And that will be DX10. But isn't DX10 only compatible with windows Vista. If so we are stuck with Crysis on DX9 as I don't know anyone with Vista yet.

Im very very happy with my ASUS 8800gts btw :) got it a while back. It was that pack that came with GRAW and WTCC racing.
 
Well I've got Vista, so I was thinking of a DX10 card especially for Cryss etc.. A bit of a waste having such an expensive card and you aren't even going to see its full potential, or the beauty of DX10 :)

just be careful dont buy anything less than 8800gts 320 meg for crysis if you really want to marvel in its glory

its release date is set for sep but i doubt they will make it in 2007

Well nothing has been listed locally but they should cost around $100 in USA. We normally pay way more then there prices so maybe R1000 -R1200? This obviously all depends on how the exchange rates go.

Edit: www.prophecy.co.za has an 8500GT listed for R 1077.
