Nvidia 8600GT in SA?

would love a 4 meg version of e6300

how much difference does 4 meg make?

I think I read somewhere it isn't such a big difference... but I shouldn't be saying anything I'm not really sure. There'll be an article on it somewhere, Google it.

erm, heres something: "For example mainstream oriented Core 2 Duo's come with 2MB of L2 cache, where as high end models have 4MB L2 cache. Tests have shown many times over that cache size makes a significant impact on overall performance."

So I might have been wrong..

But this is pretty concise.

as crappy as 8600 series is, it'll not suffer because of DX10.
Dx10 isn't a tick box feature set compared to DX9, its a rendering speed increase if anything.

Can't look at DX9 games and deduce DX10 performance.

Should we double those dollar prices to get what we will actually pay in SA?

Multiply the dollar amount by 10 and that will be what we pay here, so a E6600 that costs just over R3000 locally will soon cost just over R2000, so we're getting about a 33% reduction on most of the chips (glad I waited a bit for my upgrade).

One area that this makes a major differences in is video processing (along with the dual/quad core processing power). It speeds the whole process up very nicely.

I see. Thanks. (Sad I didn't wait for my upgrade)

So I am informed my supplier has 8500GTs, I'd sell them for around R1030.

Not to bad compared to the 7600GS, wish I had a 7600GS and 8500GT so I could do some benchmarks

Oh no, dont pull that one! Im staying away from Vista for a few years so no DX10 at all. And by the time I get it (DX10) games out will make it feel like a 5200 lol

But if its better performance for around the same price I might get it, thats why I want benchmarks...

Well against all odds I am loving Vista so am keen for the DX10 aspect. I know what you mean about it looking like a 5200 by the time there are any DX10 games though...:p

Does it really need 512mb RAM?

They are 128 bit cards. I would think it's a waste of money paying for the 512mb, it won't be able to run games at a resolution where 512MB is useful. The XFX 8600GT XXX is probably the best buy out of the whole range, it's R1600.

Hmm but I see thats a Gainward card, that is a good price then, but I still doubt it's worth it.

Still 128 bit hey? That sucks :( Not worth the extra MB's then...

Ya, that 8600GT does look the best bet right now...They need to bring out mid-range cards with bigger busses!

Well, ATI's HD 2700 series (Which will probably still be a while, they only just about got the 2600XT's out) will be midrange with a 256 bit bus.

However it will be a bit more expensive than this sort of mid ragne, half way to performance cards then really.

Ya, let's hope it's soon...ATM there are not many cards under R2000 that are worth recommending...( I am talking about DX10 ones...)

lol, atm that might or might not be because there are only 2 DX10 cards under R2000. I don't know how there could be many to recommend really. :p

Hopefully that will change when ATI get around to releasing their 2600Pro, which they still haven't released the final specs for :/
