Nvidia today urgently informed their partners about the corrections made to their last generation G92 based single-chip solutions line-up, because they were expecting the competition in the mainstream segment to get more aggressive. First of all, they reduced the recommended prices on their GeForce 9800 GTX solution that will now be available for $199.

A newer modification of this graphics card, GeForce 9800 GTX+, will be competing against the new Radeon HD 4850. According to the report on Tweaktown site, the new solution will have its chip frequency increased from 675/1688MHz to 738/1836MHz. As a result, GTX+ model should be about 10% faster than the regular GeForce 9800 GTX. GeForce 9800 GTX+ should supposedly be available in the market for something around $229 retail price.

Among the innovative features of the new GeForce 9800 GTX+ the manufacturer lists support of PhysX and Folding@Home as well as some other CUDA optimized applications, however, this advantage may be available to other Nvidia graphics cards, too. Of course, GeForce 9800 GTX+ will continue to support SLI and 3-Way SLI.

probably R1999 taking 10 times as the usual multiplier.

Really dont think the price will drop here anytime soon....SA PC market has us by the short and curly's unfortunately, they can put any price they want on stuff really. Sad but True :(

probably R1999 taking 10 times as the usual multiplier.

It's around 14x these days with inflation and a crap R/USD value if you look at the GTX280 pricing compared to SA. (although I might think it's a "get it while it's hot" price in SA atm. )

/me can't see these cards reaching sub 3k for a good few months (if not a year or two) :o

I think the lowest price might be about 2.5k. The only question is that will the ATI 4850 be the better performer??? I think Nvidia have burnt there arses this time, and lets hope the ATI can have a full come back!

I just hope this is the start to ATI's imba card range. I mean, look at Nvidia's streak where they released the 6 series and then that continued to the 8 series. Now lets hope that ati pulls through and starts a streak forcing nvidia back the the drawing board.

gotta love competition

Its 9800GTX vs 4850 not 9800GTX+ vs 4850
9800GTX+ even at exact same clock speeds as original version would be faster and that's cause its 55nm as oppsosed to 65nm.

Should OC like a demon this new version, maybe 900MHz+ on air :)
