Hmmm, I can see the GTX380 stomping the HD5870 (at an effective premium of course), HOWEVER, I really doubt it will stomp a HD5970.... think about this, even with the advances Nvidia has made, the GTX380 simply won't have the shader count to compete with the HD5970.
