Obama's record in office

I'm not going to pretend to know or care that much about US politics.

But I will say this, he is way cooler and seems to be way better than most other US presidents.

I do also think that it would be a near impossible task to achieve all the change and promises that he made, I think to a degree presidents have their hands tied behind their backs.

But he did try and I think he is still trying, we all know that the US was a messy abortion before his office, I think the road to recovery from something like that is a lot longer and harder than what many people think and it will take the cooperation of the entire country to get out of the schit hole they were / are in.

Unsubstantiated negativity isn't helping anyone or anything but rather delaying the process.

I really don't understand the vitriolic hate and rage towards him.

Is it because he's black? Is it because he isn't very openly religious? Is it because he is a supporter of science and thus, obviously evolution?

Dude, I was going to have a right go at you, but I won't :p

I really don't understand the vitriolic hate and rage towards him.

Do you really want to know. Would you take the 30 min it might take to read the links?

I will list some things that show me he is in essence no different from George Bush, the only difference being that he has a nice smile, talks a good game and displays a slightly darker complexion.

I'm pretty sure there are people who dislike him because he's black, but they're more than likely idiots.

Please look at all my replies and respond accordingly. I think you've missed a few things.

It was getting late and I didn't want to spend anymore time arguing last night, hence the reply of mine.

I apologise for assuming it was your picture, my point was that picture is blatantly misleading. Obama has spent more than Bush. He is not running a surplus and thus the deficit has increased.

As I mentioned Johnson is the only other alternative.

As for Romney I think both of us have the same opinion of him...

What's your take on Ron Paul?

Webster Tarpley reckons he was playing interference all along (he called it from the get-go); and given Rand's recent actions he could be right, but I'm still not sure what game those two are playing....

I'm not bothered. You still can't be arsed to read my first post in that sequence:

3. Not necessarily (not talking about a surplus, that's obvious)

Your subsequent posts have all shouted "No surplus, idiot", when, if you had bothered to read, you would have realised that I never argued for a surplus. I was in fact, asking how you interpreted those figures.

Anyhoo, no worries.

You said there was a dip in the deficit. Not me. That is incorrect. A dip in the deficit means there was a surplus. So I'm sorry for your failure to communicate. (Saying a dip in the deficit does not mean that the actual deficit increased just more slowly than before...that is not what you meant, if you did, then you failed badly to communicate your thoughts)

Anyways on a totally different note, just came across this vid. First the Republicans now the Dems. Sad really, one and the same... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HmaE2Aez_XY&feature=youtu.be

No. I asked.

If you can't be bothered to read, not my problem. Read my post, I said I'm not arguing there was a surplus. Its plain english. If you use two different sets of data, one being lower than the other does not indicate a surplus in this situation.

If I specifically say that I'm not talking about a surplus, and you go off on a high horse with subsequent posts about me saying there is a surplus, that's on you.

So I'm sorry for your failure to comprehend.

That list is disingenuous. How can you ask the question

So are Americans better off than they were four years ago?

then include stats from before Obama was in office, and some from the freaking 70's? And to top it off, they include opinion surveys.

Thanks, but a lot still are not relevant. How is equating numbers from before the recession (by a full one to two years) and Obama's midterm relevant at all?

2, 3, 14, 15, 16, 22, 21, and 19 for starters.

Of course, the small things like the EU economy going tits-up and the Chinese economy slowing down, both of which are the main US export markets, have had no effect or a very small effect ? Its all down to one man. The President.........

Come now, even the most ardent Obama supporter must surely be asking themselves W..T..F.. is this guy thinking.

If Helen Zille made such a decision would you vote for her?
What if it was George Bush, would people not be throwing an absolute fit.

Why are people so stunningly quiet. Do you truley understand just what the implications of the National Defence Authorization Act are for the average US citizen????

Such blatant hypocrisy, deception and double speak from this administration.

I'm genuinely interested in hearing how people could even consider voting for such a man, or continue to support him?

What do our forum members who support Obama have to say on this?

Obama Appeals Court Ruling That Strikes Down Indefinite Detention of American Citizens

Within 24 hours of a historic court ruling that struck down the indefinite detention provision of the National Defense Authorization Act, the Obama administration has appealed the ruling, emphasizing once again how the White House – while claiming to be against the measure – has aggressively pushed for it at every turn.

On Wednesday, New York federal judge Katherine Forrest issued a ruling which blocked provisions of the NDAA that could have seen American citizens kidnapped and held indefinitely without charge.

The suit was brought by activists and journalists, including former New York Times columnist Chris Hedges, who argued that the law was unconstitutional because it could see journalists abducted and detained merely for speaking their minds.

In “permanently” halting the enforcement of the law, Forrest noted how the plaintiffs presented “evidence that First Amendment rights have already been harmed and will be harmed by the prospect of (the law) being enforced. The public has a strong and undoubted interest in the clear preservation of First and Fifth Amendment rights.”

However, the very next day the Obama administration reportedly moved to appeal the decision in an attempt to reinstate the indefinite detention provisions.

“This sent a chill down my spine,” writes Business Insider’s David Seaman. “In the midst of my interview with Tangerine Bolen, a plaintiff in the lawsuit against the NDAA’s indefinite detention provisions & coordinator of StopNDAA.org, she received an email from her lawyer to inform her that the Obama administration has already appealed yesterday’s historic court ruling.”

“For a man who doesn’t want the ability to order the military to abduct and detain citizens – without charge or trial – it is quite odd that his administration is appealing yet again,” he adds.

Horrible act. Still rather have Obama over Romney.

Right wingers tend to forget that since Bushes wars, the best any US prez could do was stem the flow. It was in the Reps interest to let a dem win last election. Then they could blame the shyte the countries in on them.

Horrible act. That's it?

Not to be insulting here, but don't you think you perfectly represent the "slowly boiled frog"? Let me explain.

You have just admitted that it's a "terrible act", yet you would still prefer this man who would subject you to indefinite detention, without recourse to a lawyer or fair trial, for an indefinite period of time, to someone who you don't really yet know.

Can you not see the utter despotism written all over this?

Neither of those two are worthy of the title "President", but at least with Obama we can judge him by his actions (this law). You have basically sold away your freedom Randhir.

Any American who understands the content of the NDAA will understand that it signs away their freedom, liberty and right to a fair trial.

It is the most chilling piece of legislation I have ever come across. Something out of communist China.

How many americans have had indefinite detention and no recourse to a lawyer under this act?

Unless my google skills have failed me the total is.... 0.

Lol. Firstly, you're assuming Romney won't be like his predecessors and demand indefinite detention for US prisoners either. He has said that he will be fully committed to more war if he's elected, and with his base moving more and more right, I think that would be inevitable.

You can look at it from an American point of view, but I'm not American, so what I see is that ANY indefinite detention without trial is wrong, not just this one. Did you forget who opened Gitmo in the first place?

Lastly, I don't appreciate your hit and run style of posting. You post fallacies here, and when called on it you disappear, only to pop up again when it suits you.
