Hi :)

Recently I took a liking in office, like a lot especially with windows 10, anyway I need some guidance since I have never used this before.

I have a lot of mail boxes also a lot of identities from which I send all of them are forwarders to my main e-mail.

Question, how does office 365 work, how to I get my mails on there?

What changes will I need to make

Essentially, I need a crash course I run my mails via Cpanel :)

Nah. I'm good thanks.

I just need some pointers from guys who've moved to the cloud, I have an idea what to do, just want to find out what others advise.

Office365 isn't really in the cloud, it's just a subscription to Office with One Drive.

I started moving mailboxes over to Office 365 last night. Unfortunately I don't have time to write about my experiences right now but will see if I can this evening.

One thing that I find a bit annoying is that if you have multiple mailboxes for one user then you can only seem to send from the default email address. To be able to send from other addresses you have to make use of mail groups (Not sure if that's the term. Will look tonight.) which isn't ideal.

There are good guides on changing the DNS settings for your domains though and I found moving that email addresses over to Office 365 is an easy experience. My domains are hosted with Namecheap. I also have local domains at Domains.co.za but haven't moved them over yet.

Will have more information this evening if everything goes according to plan.

Sweet stuff please keep me posted :)

I will need to change the MX records of each domain I asssume

I'm assuming you're getting the subscription with hosted exchange? You will have to change the MX records.

Just remember their licensing is weird when it comes to multiple domains. You'll need a license of about R50/pm per user per additional domain.

I didn't see that. Don't you only get charged per user? For instance I'm the only user so I add all the domains to just my user and it doesn't cost anything extra. At least that's what it looked like to me. Will have to make sure this evening.

*edit*

Yeah, the licensing is per user (mailbox) so you can add as many domains to the one mailbox as you want for no extra charge.

"Licenses are per mailbox, so you'll only need one license for each user. You can have multiple SMTP address in multiple domains assigned to each mailbox. Only one email address can be set as default and that is the only address that can be used as the From address, but you'll receive email sent to any of the other addresses."

Yup, so your R206pm license will include Office, 1tb OneDrive and one 50gb mailbox on one domain. If you add more domains you'll have to get additional licensing per mailbox.

No, like that quote said: You can have multiple domains on one mailbox at no extra cost. If you have multiple mailboxes then it will cost extra but for instance I'm letting all my email addresses go to one mailbox. Or if you want to send from different email addresses then you can create email groups and link users to them which doesn't cost extra. So extra domains are free.

That is how i also understand it.

for instance now I have thunderbird connected to [email protected] and all my other mails are set up as identities on thunderbird and in cpanel they all forward to [email protected]

So I have about 20 odd other E-mails that all forward to me@me and then in Thunderbird I just select from which one I want to send as.

uhm, no. That the rubbish you buy from Incredible. Office365 for business includes:

- email
- Onedrive
- Licensing
- Sharepoint
- Skype for business
- Archiving
- AntiSpam

etc. It all depends on what package you are looking for.

Seeing as if everyone is commenting without any knowledge on the subject I will give you the overview you need. Office365 is many things:

- email
- Onedrive
- Licensing
- Sharepoint
- Skype for business
- Archiving
- AntiSpam

You pay each of these things on a per user basis, there is no charge for domains. You can purchase them as a bundle or you can buy each on their own (which is obviously more expensive)
I would spend time explaining the packages but Microsoft changes the scope daily so take a look at: https://products.office.com/en-za/business/compare-office-365-for-business-plans

The important thing to look at is the user limits on the packages, some are capped and others can grow infinitely. We use E3 internally which has all these things and costs us R275 per user per month.

Please note that you can also mix it up, our receptionist has a basic license for email only where other staff might have OneDrive and email without Office, you are free to buy what you want.

edit: also keep in mind that Email is Exchange, this means your contacts, Calendar and mail is synced between all your devices.
You can have multiple email accounts liked to one mailbox (which is the thing you pay for), I have 5 or six which deliver to my account. You can also created groups like sales@ which will deliver to your sales team. Exchange is the way you should go, POP and even IMAP is **** compared to Exchange

Thanks for this, it makes it a bit easier to get the whole picture now.

Not a straight forward process, but definitely a powerful solution I most definitely want.
