Office 365 Error

Hi there,

I have searched the web without any luck so hoping someone here has some guidance.
I am trying to add an exchange account to office 365, if I add through outlook it opens some weird address with a bunch of numbers and if I try through control panel I get the following error:

"name cannot be matched to a name in the address list"

Can you post some screenshots of what you are doing? It will help us to understand what you are doing and point out where you have made an error easier.

Adding a 365 account to office 2016 can be a nightmare. There's also those autocomplete registry keys to think about. Microsoft really sucks with this one btw.

Do other accounts work on the same Exchange Server and the same domain?
Is this a brand new account?

Can access the account via webmail?

Do other accounts work on the same Exchange Server and the same domain?

I've got too many questions actually since your problem description is very vague.

Other accounts work fine on other computers yes. This is a very old account

Hope you came right - this is what I found when Googling

Outlook 2016 only supports the AutoDiscover process for adding Exchange Online accounts.

Dumb work around - can you connect Gmail to the mailbox then 2016 to Gmail? Probably a mad idea though.

That's the thing, it adds this account but it isn't an email account. No old emails, does not allow to send. its basically a dummy email account

I tried the email addy you used in the screenshot - I get this so it definitely sees it

Yes it is that email, after I type the password into the the field, it says successful and then adds the funny email account as above in thread. 2016 with 365
