Good day ladies and gents,

Lets face it, if you have a ****ty chair working on a laptop of desktop is going to be a pain and unpleasant. With that said I have a chair that I think have come through many generations of my family. Hard and unsupportive... :(

I will be keeping the chair dont worry!

ok so my plan - need recommendations on a good chair. I have bad posture and lower back. I spend round 4-5hours after work in front of pc. Normally doing work or watching series maybe.

budget: round: R1500. not really willing to spend more.

send links and where can test the seat out in Cape Town.

Go wild :) thanks in advance.

R1500 will get you a decentish chair from Makro, it won't get you a proper office chair from a decent office furniture supplier though.

You have only one back ... right? I had the same views as you, but then decided to spend a little more now than I anticipated. I bought one of these. My back pain is much less than before, but this is not a "fix-my-back" solution. Do proper back and core exercises. I view this as a future investment in my well being.

Ask your company where they buy their office furniture from....

Waltons have some great office chairs covered in cloth material. I find that the faux leather chairs get cold in winter and the material starts to wear off against jeans.

Second the vote for the Ergotherapy chairs, we use these in our office. I've test-driven high-end chairs from Herman Miller and Humanscale as well, still prefer this chair. They're very comfortable for the task, will keep your back in check and Ergotherapy is good with their aftersales and warranty service (had minor issues with chairs, gas cylinder that required replacing, broken clip, etc).

They're a little pricey compared to what you'd find at Makro, but if you're planning on using the chair for a long time it's a hugely worthwhile investment. People spend way more on their computer hardware, but being comfortable will not only make you more productive but also likely save on health-related costs later on down the line.

At those prices, I give those chairs a maximum of 1 year before they start falling apart.

You're going to be spending a fair portion of your life in the chair, so you might as well screw the budget and go full out baller status:

Herman Miller Aeron

Used by CEOs, presidents and discerning editors alike, you too can experience the comforts of the Herman Miller Aeron for only $689.00 (ex shipping).

I bought one of the High Back Plether chairs from Game, R1999.
They are comfy but take note they all have a central shaft with a piston that drives them.
The chair actually sits on the top of the shaft which actually rocks.
Your chair is never quite level.

It's a pain but not a big deal really.
Compared to my work office chair which is mounted on 4 corners.

That being said, my chair is very comfy for long sessions but that pivot annoys me.

R7k excluding shipping?! Mad bro...

Consider that you spend 6 to 8 hours of your day at the office sitting in a chair, as much time as you do in bed. You might as well spend a bit extra and get something comfortable/good for you.

It's not expensive when you compare it to luxuries like cars, audio equipment, PC equipment etc.

There's always a point where you are spending too much on something for just plain luxury. Like buying a Rolce Royce for comfort for a few Mil. Or buying a 60" 4k TV for R100k. Or buying a chair for R7k+ in this case. Or buying a bread for R100 because it has an extra seed in it which gives you a small energy boost. Those are things for people that are rich and earn more than the average person.
