Office chair

I will be doing the hunt in Durban in a few weeks.. hopefully I can come up with something, need to replace my crap Makro chair.

Go speak to a rep from Waltons at the Crescent or Springfield. They have some good chairs that are worth a look.
 
All the better to take care of your back while you're young! You're doing the right thing by researching options.

I had very bad back issues when I was using a torturous office chair that was killing my back with each passing day. Resorted to trying a pillow to try support my lumbar and even that didn't help ;) .

When I was having issues, I called up all the major companies that supply task-orientated ergonomic chairs to test-drive. I have personally test-driven the Herman Miller Aeron (B and C), Embody, Mirra as well as the Humanscale Freedom and Liberty. Each over a period of more than a week.

I'd still personally choose a GetOne over any of those chairs. It beats all of them IMO for long-term comfort and assisting in keeping good posture. Lumbar support is very good, just keep in mind that it doesn't have a lot of recline. I would have thought the more expensive chairs would be better, but not so in my case. The Aeron's seatpan digs into your legs regardless of the chair-size, the Embody's back support is confusing to configure and ultimately uncomfortable.

You'll be very happy with the GetOne. It may seem a little pricey at first, but it does the job damn well, day after day :) . 5-Year warranty as well, which is more than the chairs you'll get at Game/Makro. Taking into account that the minimum time you'll have a working chair is at least 5 years (but likely more) it's not that expensive when you take cost into account over its useful life.

However, arrange to test the chair first. Make sure you like it and that it's comfortable for you.

Exercise should help, as others have said, but you may also want to look into something like a rumble-roller or inversion therapy as aids, though clear it with the medical experts first.

Already did that, but did not see anything I liked.

Will try and see if there are any GetOne's around to try out, although the price is out of my budget :(
 
Another one that is similar to the Aeron is the Lorell Executive Ergonomic office chair. It's around $200 and has that same mesh to it. My brother is 6'4" and has no problem sitting in the chair. Have to say though, if you have the money the Aeron is a better chair. "For back pain and long-term back health a chair with lumbar support is absolutely essential. Chairs are subjective. If I were you I would go to Makro and sit on them and find the one that feels the most comfortable.
 
I recently did the tour of duty and Makro had **** office chairs as did PnP, Checkers, MR Price home and Game.

The quality of the Makro chairs is horrible...

They have no decent support, and they fall apart if used with any regularity.
 
I can vouch for the GetOne chair from Ergotherapy. I have a green leatherette high back and it helped a lot for my back pain. I'd suggest giving them a call to find out what works best for you and to see if you can try before you buy. As far as I know they do that.

Reviving this old thred. The people with the Ergotherapy GetOne chair, are their any advantages taking the leather over normal fabric and does the leather easily get swetty? For those with the normal fabric, how is it holding up after a year or so of use, is it a high quality fabric or does it damage easily? Finally, the other customisable parts like the base and casters, would you say it's worth say going for a chrome base and rubber casters, or is this simply about looks?

We use the fabric GetOne chairs, mostly with standard base, all with regular castors. Have had some of their chairs for 4years+ now. The fabric holds up very well. A few chairs have required minor warranty-service, which has always been completed by Ergotherapy without fuss and in good-time (5-year warranty on the chairs). Can't comment about the leather.

Regarding the other parts, we do have some with the chrome base, definitely looks nicer and I'd imagine the rubber castors would be helpful to reduce noise when rolling on hard floors.

One other consideration is the mid or high-back options. Previously, we bought the highback chairs, but I personally prefer the mid-back now.

What makes you prefer the mid over the high back? I was thinking to go for the high.
