HI Guys,

Recently setup a new PC for a client and everything was working fine until the display went all array. Everything looks fine at the moment, but Microsoft software display all looks like blocks and dull. Almost like Windows 98. The issue is with Microsoft Office and Internet Explorer as far as I can see. The other programs are not affected. And it's only affecting the user, because when I log in with administrator it looks normal. Its Office 2007 and IE8. Not too sure how to post pics on here, but if some1 can inform me on how to do that or I can email a screenshot to you.

Thanks

sounds like somebody turned on some compatibility settings for those two programs... and in the compatibility settings they have disabled visual themes and enabled 256 colour display.

Ok, sounds like it could be. Now the question is how do I turn it back on or enable the visual themes.

log in with their account and find the executables for those two programs (or the shortcuts). Right click on them and choose properties. Click on the compatibility tab and just remove all the check marks.

Thank you very much Gary, really hope this works. I will check it out tomorrow. But really appreciate it

If you find it to be a different problem then a quick fix would be to just create a new account and copy the data, desktop etc over from the old profile. Sometimes that approach can save some time rather than troubleshoot for hours and days and get nowhere.
