Office for Mac?

Hello, me again.

After buying my iMac a couple of weeks ago (and loving it), i still find that i need to use Microsoft Office quite a bit (despite buying iWork)
I still have a copy of Office 2003 knocking around somewhere......so, do i
Buy a copy of windows and load it on the mac and then load office 2003, or do i go out and buy Office for Mac, i'm trying to figure out which is better.
Anyone have any experiences of this?

What need is iWork not fulfilling ? Does it not open all Office documents? What features do you really need as that will dictate which option you should choose.

I have Office 2004 on my MacBook Pro and it works, but is a but sluggish.
 
Avoid Office for Mac like the plague. It's slow, crashes a lot and isn't worth it. Stick with iWork, it's vastly better.

What's the point of owning a Mac if you're going to be using Windows on it anyway? It's just wrong man!

As the other said, what are the features you find you're missing? Office for Mac is not exactly equal to the Windows version. OpenOffice 3 (still in beta) is available natively on the Mac (without the need for X11) and so far I'm pretty happy with it, although I'm not a heavy user.
 
I only noticed the other day you can open .docx files not only in Pages but in TextEdit too. :o

iWork doesn't have VBA / Macro's and a bunch of other other things.
Nor does the Mac version of Office.

I also use iWork at home and it's fine for my home use, I dual boot with XP and use Office 2003 there.

I suggest Office 2008 for your iMac running leopard. About R3300 from the right places ex vat. Or buy MS Vista Home edition OEM for about R900 from your local PC shop, install bootcamp from disk2 of your imac set, setup the partition, I use 80 Gb of HD for this, install vista, it sometimes hangs the machine, its ok to reboot and continue the MS install. The only pain is the restarting to switch OS. If you can go for Office 2008. It has all the macros etc

Or you can install Parallel dekstop or VMware Fusion & virtually run windows OS in it for you to run your office 2003 copy.

thats what I do :D I also have the added "benefit" that the SCCM admins @ work keep my VM up to date with all the service packs and patches :)

My Fusion install runs in unity mode so apart from occasionally having to change my password, I never see windows but can still get access to Excel/SAP Bex Analyser.

Having said all this, if you dont need to run specific macros/VBAs/etc, why dont you look at Google Docs or a similar SaaS service for your office needs? Much simpler!
