Hey guys.

At work we have a uncapped connection, which we used freely to surf and such.
Up to a few weeks ago we where forbidden from using the internet except for online banking, nothing else.
(Some douche prob abused it as usual).

Now our IT guy tells me the boss is using some type of software to see who uses the internet and how much data they use, and probably which sites they visit.
I assume they see that through your pcs IP?

Ok my question:
If I install xp on VMware (virtual Machine) on my current pc and run in through a VPN*SSH connected to lets say the UK.
Will that change the IP from my machine or only after it leaves the server on our side?
Basically, will they be able to tell its me surfing the net?
If this doesnt work what do you suggest? :D

Thanks
Satt

They should be able to tell the traffic is from your PC, but not what that traffic is.

yep. They will be able to see the amount of traffic from you.

Why do you care what your boss sees? ADSL is so dirt cheap today; surf your weird curiosities at home.

They will see the traffic.

I suggest you get a tablet or laptop with 3G and completely bypass the office network.

I would suggest not bypassing IT policy.
Its really not worth risking your job simply to browse the internet

They will be able to see how much traffic you are using and what type of traffic (vpn, ssh, etc). You will still get into trouble. Rather just use your cellphone or something for private stuff. Dont risk your job over something so lame.

Our previous IT guy got canned for downloading from our main server, rather not risk it.
The guy got the bright idea to download Quake2 which was a couple hundred mb's I think, IT boss logged in and saw bittorrent running on the main screen.
