Nope in real time it look over to me, in slow mo it looked over to me.

The welsh kicker cook or something seemed to think it was over. He looked shocked that it was not awarded.

The question though and sandman may have answered it but was it over? and if so how is it possible with all the technology available that this sort of thing can happen?

They'd need to create something similar to what they do in cricket when they show the length/height of the delivery for those LBW decisions.
 
The touch judges had the best view to make the call and if they say it wasn't over it wasn't over.

And ja, the Welsh try did look suspiciously forward.

The ref is allowed to ask the TMO to adjudicate on kicks but Barnes was happy not to.

My 1st impression was that it was over but television is not the best vantage point and I've watched enough rugby to know the camera angles, trajectory, depth perception, 2D nature etc etc etc sometimes make it misleading
 
about that kick that did or did not go over. Why not string a net up between the posts so when a ball goes between the uprights it will get caught and likewise if it misses it wont get caught in the net? Don't american football have something like this?

haha Can't do that!! Sometimes the ball gets kicked between the posts for reasons other than drop goals, penalties or conversions... In any event the touch judges get it right 99% of the time...

what other reasons do they kick it between the posts then, I thought it's for points?

Yeah it is but if misguided tactical kick landed between the posts it would stop in the net instead of being either fielded in goal or going dead. Both instances would have ramifications of how the game progressed..

I'd rather see that then a bunch of them dancing and sucking their thumbs like they do in soccer after someone scores a goal.

haha, no. Let's say an attacking team just outside the oppositions 22 decides to chip through a kick for the centres to chase and it goes between the polls....? Or a mis-guided up and under....? Or an over cooked tactical kick...?

No, come on dude... What about a player fielding a defensive ball in his in goal area trying to kick it out and it gets caught up in the net....??

Seriously, as I said tough judges get those calls right 99% of the time. There's no need to change anything...
 
I'm writing a letter now to WP Rugby to see bout this law, my daughter can hand it in tomorrow when she goes to work.

Yea but that welsh player was asking for a tv replay, although as you mention it would not have done any good. I have never seen a kick called a miss when it looks like it has gone over on tv :D. Guess there is a first for everything.

I wouldn't mind seeing the replay now though, just to see whether is was good or not... Hook probably should have been a bit more vocal about getting it referred. He may have convinced Barnes to refer it.

Frans Steyn seems to think it went over...

I have looked at it a couple of times, it went outside the pole for a bit and was directly above the pole for quite a while. It's impossible from the camera to see whether it went outside before the poles, after it passed the poles or at the poles. The only people that could tell would be those at the poles.
