We were pretty much outplayed up front!! The backs under the circumstances managed parity. Brussouw never dominated on the ground while Sam did!! Our lack of world class locks is worrying!! Smit is unfortunately past his sell by date and Pierre could not impose in such a tight game!!

Agree, Bismarck has to start!!

Very lucky win this!!! The only place we won was on the scoreboard!! Wales goal kicking cost them while Morne's 3/3 won us the game.

Personally I was expecting a lot more from the Boks today. Wales are a useful outfit. Look forward to a Wales vs Oz quarterfinal.

Yup that is what happens when you are rusty, on his day he is just pure genius and now we have a few games to get him up to speed and our other rusty players up to speed.

It was never going to be good coming into the world cup with rusty players. The good news is FS never got injured. All we need to do though is to start the running with some sort of momentum like we did when we scored the first try, i am sure why we are crashing the ball everytime. We have good runners, good passers i mean why are we crashing the whole time? Spread it and run.

One thing is certain though smit needs to go, any coach that is good will make the decision to drop him. Sure he is the captain but i cannot see how being captain trumps playing the better player.
 
Pierre Spies also had a crap game. Willem Alberts played much better when he took over the nr 8 position.

But I agree, John Smit should be big enough to step back & let Bismarck do his magic with his brother.

Guthro had a cracker game....what happened to Beast??
 
Very lucky there. That penalty kick, did it go over the upright or what? To me it looked like it curved back in.

The beast had a fine game i thought, didn't do much less than the guthro. Sandman winning on the scoreboard is all that matters at the end of the day.

We did just about enough to win the game and i think if you look at our defense we did amazingly well to hold them off. It's our attack game that needs work. Pass the ball and spread it like the all blacks, if we can do that we will be unstoppable. Look how we scored our first try, pass pass pass, rest of the game crash crash crash

I feel we are wasting habana out wide and if we are not going to pass the ball to him then don't play him. He is wasted out wide sadly because he never gets the ball.
 
Agree with a lot of you oaks, Smith should really be dropped. 5 mins after the replacements came on we scored. Back line was a total mess after Jean De Villers went off, but that's mostly due to putting another nr 10 on the field. Can't really blame the wings and Centrers for not performing after that. Better choice would have been putting Lambi on the bench so he can go full back and bring Frans up to inside center. What I don't understand is why the give the ball to Schalk or Russouw to carry up?! If Spies had those balls we would have been singing another tune about his performance, IMO they don't utilize him.

Totally agree but there should also be mentioned the far below par performance of another old timer in the name of Fourie du Preeze, shocking performance come on put Hougaardt there????

Du Preez didn't have a terrible day - he just had a very average day - and there is a difference. I'd lie to see PDivvy stick with the team as it is (Realistically I don't see John Smit being dropped.) and give them a few more games together to gel as a team a little more.

Another thing I'd love to see is Frans Steyn hitting more gaps at speed. He's a big strong fullback and I honestly think that he will become the best fullback in the world if SA rugby decides to make him a specialist fullback. Big, strong, fast and reads the game well, just not as a number 10.

I am impressed with the posts here today.....
After scouring through the last 3 pages or so......... majority of the guys are quite positive and happy about the win. (Although, I think the newspapers tomorrow will have a different feeling on the matter)
I opened this thread up thinking the team will get crucified for our less than stellar performance.

We need more supporters like this behind our boys.

Oh and............... GO BOKKE!!!!

Poor Argintina played out of their skins again, dominated the game and lost 2 players to injuries including captain Contepomi and yet managed lose. Soul destroying....

Had Hernández been at the WC they would have won

Ja I watched it and agree - a real shame. I felt the English were playing to hurt and Argentina definitely missed Hernandez.



On our game, I wanted to re-watch the 16" penalty kick and lo and behold, we can't see if it does clear or not because the FSCKING absa logo is in the god damned way. Why do they have to have these things on screen in critical moments? cnuts!


EDIT: Oh, sorry for my language, but I am a little irritated by it.

Same for Wales i suppose, played all the rugby, a debatable penalty kick that looked to have been over, to lose by one point. Soul destroying.....

I watched the Eng /Arg game, spirited Argentina side, but the English managed to pull off the win, Jonny had a bad day for his standards, 3 out of 8 kicks i think.
