I got it wrong.

Then please tell me if the uefa cup is such a big and prestigious competition why the likes of milan fans are embarrassed that they will be playing in it this coming season and why the bayern fans were upset that they were playing in it this season?

The cup is there for the second string of European teams. Whether you want to believe that is up to you.

I dont think you quite understand. Everybody knows that the cream of the crop is the CL. That is the trophy all the clubs want to win. But to say that the UEFA cup is a cup for lesser teams is wrong.

Sevilla won the UEFA cup last year, had they played any of the top 4 EPL teams i would put my money on them.

If you are a football fan you will appreciate the football being played in the UEFA cup.
 
They got knocked out 4-0 that’s the competition in Uefa and if you lived here and spoke to fans of various teams you would know they very passionate about being in europe.

The UEFA Cup while still important , its not as prestigeous as it used to be.Its a fact.We dont live in europe but i listen to plenty of football radio ( TalkSport being my favoriate)from europe especially the UK , and its all about the Champions League
 
Yes, it is all about the CL BUT the UEFA cup is still a brilliant competition with brilliant football being played.

If telling the truth is wrong then yeah I must be wrong. If the cream of the crop is in one competition who is in the other one?? The lesser teams unless you want to use another term to describe them.

I know very well how passionate fans are. You are obviously very upset when your team loses any game. Even more when you lose 4-0 but once you calm down and reflect calmly the bayern fans would taking losing in the semi's of the uefa cup and winning the german league.

And your assumption that I don't know how passionate fans are is ridiculous. I have been to a milan derby and a milan-celtic game last year I know how the fans are. I am also a moderator on the Forza Inter forums.

@ Stefan i dont think you are following us. What myself and Supa are saying is that yes the CL is the main compeition in the UEFA calendar. But to say that the UEFA cup isnt important and only poorer teams play in it is just plain wrong.

Look at the past winners of the cup. Do you think when Real Madrid or Inter Milan won the UEFA cup they played poor football?

When Porto won it, did they play poor football? Porto won the CL the next season. Its a great cup, the teams in there are good and have amazing players. Sevilla comes to mind, winning back to back UEFA cups. Watching them play was maginficant, they would take any team on in any league. They played brilliant.

But i guess you dont watch football as closely as i do, cos you only watch the CL and the UEFA cup doesnt interest you.

Tell that to 45000 fans that filled man city stadium and the 200 000 other fans that came to watch the final but had no tickets.

My friend drove his bike across europe so he could watch his team spurs play in a group stage and then drive back after the match.Thats passion for football/uefa cup.

I watched the uefa cup. I saw each and every game fiorentina played this season. I see each and every serie a, la liga and epl game that is shown on dstv plus all the cl and uefa cup games show here. So to say I don't follow the football closely is false.

My point is yes there are some good teams in there . But the overall the quality is not as good as it was. If you look at the uefa cup this season can you honestly tell me that any of those teams except for Bayern Munich have the quality to win next season's cl ??

When Inter and Real madrid played in the uefa cup in the 1990's like I said before the top 4 in the top 3 leagues didn't qualify so the competition in the uefa cup was better.

Was thinking on the way to work, one tournament I think should be taken more serious and its not is the club world cup.

Ya, Barca lost in the final last year in the club world cup. Just shows the strength of the teams.

I didn't say it was poor I said its lesser quality teams than the cl. There's a reason why they schedule it on Thursday nights on separate weeks from the cl football. Also just because I think its not top football doesn't mean its not entertaining.:)
 
What has the tv schedule got to do with anything?

I think you need to look up the definition of "top flight" football as the teams in uefa are as good as any other team in the champs league.

The fact they never had consistency in their domestic league hence they finished out of contention for the champs league doesn’t mean they dont have the capability to beat any champs league winner/team on the day.
 
Lets be realistic, yes the UEFA cup is pretty... but the champions league is where its at and where AC Milan wants to play... clubs of champions league quality dont give a fck about the uefa cup..

the champions league can be the difference between a player signing for your club or not..

Do you think AC would rather play against the 5th and 6th best in England/Spain, or the top 4? Cos those are the clubs that play in the UEFA Cup... 5th place!!!

Not to mention the money lost by not having a champions league spot

MY initially point was the fact that you stated clubs/people don’t care about the tournament, thats what I'm trying to get across is, its a big tournament which players/teams/fans care about and not to play it down.

Revenue wise Ac would have lost out but I doubt it will affect their spending spree for next season.

Interested to see what the cost difference is actually...any ideas?

The difference is about 50 million euros playing in the cl vs uefa cup. This was the figure Gazzeta dello sport quoted milan as losing out on if they were to go out at the groupstage of cl as opposed to playing uefa cup football.

I still by my opinion that the real big clubs the top 10 in the world do not care for the uefa cup.

I dont think we are on the same page. Of COURSE all clubs want to play in the CL. I believe it is even better than the World Cup. I love the Champions League.

What i am saying is that the UEFA cup does not get the respect it deserves. Its a great competition with great teams and amazing players. Really good players!

I njoy watching it!

Tell that to FC Bayern Munich biggest club in german history, after getting knocked out 4-0.
