The five new features in question are: Neural Net Prediction, Smart Prefetch, Pure Power, Precision Boost and Extended Frequency Range. Altogether they’re known as AMD SenseMI Technology.

The common denominator being AMD. In the first instance it's the GPU and in the second it's the CPU.

Being released 11 April I think.

Waiting for it myself, I sometimes have to transcode dashcam footage and stuff. Would be a nice upgrade from my 6 year old Athon II X3 (that's a tricore).

Seen some tests the past couple of days of the 1600's vs i5's. For anything produciton-related the Ryzens come out top obviously cause of the core/thread count, but they again drop in gaming and the Intels take the lead again. Seeing as the midrange market is what these chips are aimed at, it may cause people to keep going for Intel - they're similarly priced, anyway.

Of course, as all the tests I saw were before actual release, pinch of salt everything, but it just seems that high-end Ryzen makes more sense than the midrange at the moment.

Or wait and see what happens when games are properly optimized to make use of Ryzen architecture...

Ashes of the Singularity showed something like a 25-30% increase in fps's after the optimization. This was on the Ryzen 7's.

Nah, no point in waiting as changes take years to filter down, had the same attitude when dx12 came out and meh waste of time. Have adopted the 'buy for the here and now' attitude.

And it's still slower if I'm not mistaken.
