According to the Steam forums and steam stats, retail copies are working depending if it is midnight in your time zone.
Same **** as MW2.

EDIT:

Retail copy is working, my friend is playing it.

EDIT X2:

Never mind, he said it failed after he tried to launch it.

Wow, what a monumental slap in the face.

You go to the store to collect the game at 12:00 in the damn morning and you cannot play the game. Its bad enough for the Steam purchases, but retail too?

Unbelievable.

Just picked up my copy. "Call of Duty - Black Ops cannot be installed yet, because it is not yet released". So that's a negative, no go. Fail

It's a good thing they told everyone about this, its not like the dudes at iGame stayed up to configure the servers for the masses of players who purchased the game today.

Steam / Activision = Huge tossers in my book.

Short answer - move to AUS :<

Rofl.

I would like to understand how the whole releasing works. It clearly makes no sense to me. And I almost drove out to Canal Walk for the midnight launch before I decided I will buy it over steam.
Ah well, guess its bed time now and I might as well go to the office 2m and work :D
