It's just normal release teething problems... will normalise soonish (I hope)...

I played MP last night.... after getting decimated a few times due to the game speed (used to BC2) I managed to get a few kills.... few frame drops and lags, but nothing really excessive. Looks enjoyable.

What is normal about releasing games that do not work?

I mean surely these companies are testing the game before it's released? Surely they should be able to pick up a massive problem like this?

Right, tried about 4 times to install the game, from disc, because Steam was too busy to handle my request, of installing my game, from the physical disc!! Eventually got it installed, fired up mulitplayer. Set all the graphics settings to max, join a local server and everything is running excellent. 60fps all the time. Pings at 40 -60. I only get slight lag every 10ish secs, then the buttons on my mouse seems to stop working for second. In the beggining I thought, cool, gun jams!, but alas, It is a bug as I can't change weapons via the mouse wheel as well for that second or two. As far as COD's go, this is one of the most finished products I ever saw at launch day. I manage to finish 1st quite a few times. :)

On the other hand, I had my buddies on teamspeak and they couldn't stop swearing. The one was one Telkom Do Broadband and he seemed to be getting pings of 500 -2000ms. This, I know is the MWEB peering issue, so he is effectively trying to playing on local servers via London. Told him to move ISP's. The other buddy had a 8600GT, and this is the card listed as the minimum requirement, he complained about very low FPS. Told him he needs a new card. The other buddy had a 9800GTX and was with Afrihost and also had terrible fps. I didn't know what was the issue with him, but I guess it's related to issue everyone is having with the frame drops.

Overall it's excellent fun, but the game is in need of a serious patch, like every other multiplayer PC game in it's first week of launch. I really don't know why this is always the case?? Don't game developers have quality control departments?

I managed to play a few rounds last night, the game is really really fun.
Just a few problems, which seems to be quite common:
-My ping is constantly between 30 - 100, but the lag is terrible.
-FPS is running at a max of 50, for a second or 2, then drops down to 25. (using a 9600GT, altough I only have a AMD dual core, less than the minimum)
-Can't hardly find any SA servers, still just managing to only see 2 SA clan servers...... that's it, and oddly enough the the servers that show up are all FFA servers, no Death Match ones.

Hopefully the little niggles will be sorted out fairly soon, cause this is quite an awesome game.

Had the weirdest thing happen to me last night in my first match: I was walking around and the game had a sudden series of lag issues, the next thing I got credited with a double kill, I mean................wtf I didn't even fire my weapon :D , odd thing is this happened 2 more times in the same match.

I didn't play a single game last night after all the issues I experienced. At first the continues steam crash while updating the game, then when It finally installed, I Launch the multi-player the game gets stuck on "fetching stats". I dont have any stats!!!! I finally resolved this after a while. I finally jump into a game and my ping keeps jumping from 70-999 within the first few seconds. My FPS drops to 20fps and it lags horrible rendering the game unplayable for myself. I tried with both my Mweb and Axxess account and its the same issue. Eventually I just got rather frustrated and didn't bother trying anymore and just went to cry myself to sleep.

I had no install / update problems. But damn did I get som lag spikes, same as you kyubi. I chose servers with a sub 40 ping, but in game I averaged 120ms ?!? I hope this gets sorted asap!

Had some terrible lag, fps drops, jerkyness etc last night in single player and multiplayer.
Solved the problem for me by ensuring that vertical sync is ON in the graphic settings for the game. Switch that off and the game is totally unplayable.

You do realise that when COD WAW was released, it did not run on Windows XP. Yes, Treyarach released a game that did not work on an entire OS. So I'm not surprised that BO is giving so many problems.

I say give them a break and allow them to patch it for us.

When something is in testing, it is tested on a much smaller scale. Once it is released and hundreds of thousands of people try to use it at the same time, thats when you they really see what happens with the volume and performance. You can't test something on that scale because you would need to literally give the game out to thousands of people to test and they would all need to connect at the same time etc etc. The best thing we could all do now is report the errors on their forums in detail and their developers will gladly fix it.

Again though that is not normal. Although it does seem to have become the norm to release half assed games and then patch then over the course of the next year or 2.

stupid question.... but how do you change your username. Is it done through the console? I cant seem to find any settings to be able to do it.
On a totally different note. Steam sucks. Took all night to even try connect and get the game patched. Managed to play one MP game and was quite laggy with low FPS.

Nope it was a conspiracy. WAW is the reason I upgraded to Vista. I think Treyarch and Microsoft are in co-hoots :p I just find it unbelievable that with WAW, they obviously didn't test the game on XP. But yeah you're right and it's damn irritating having to download 1gb patches all the time.

Anyway I personally think they should have gone back to how COD4 was, NO Steam required at all and anyone could host a server. COD4 was by far the most user friendly FPS game ever made. No having to logon to servers to retrieve stats and whatnot. Simply open the game and join a server.

You change it in steam, not in the game.

Anyone played today? Is it better or still the same shyte?
