I originally posted this on the SGS forums, thought I'd share it with you guys as well:

I've discovered additional little fixes one can make in the mp_config.cfg file.

Navigate to your players folder, should be in steam\steamapps\common\call of duty black ops

Then open up your mp_config.cfg file, and look for the following 3 settings:

1) sys_configSum
2) sys_configureGHz
3) sys_sysMB

Now those 3 values you'll guys notice have some really odd values.

Now I opened up my MW2 mp_config.cfg file and it had the following values:

sys_configSum "209012943"
seta sys_configureGHz "17.9757"
seta sys_sysMB "2048"

(Keep in mind these values are unique to your own system, don't just copy and paste mine )

I copied and pasted the values for those 3 settings from my MW2 config file and pasted it into my Black Ops mp_config.cfg file.

Save it, and remember to set the file's property to read only.

Then launch the game. Its now as if the game is as smooth as cod 4 & mw2, and it made a MASSIVE difference on my side.

If you don't have MW2 to get those values, you will probably find them in your cod4 cfg as well. It will also work if you just substitute your cpu speed and ram values in there as well.

As for the configSum, leave it at its default value.

What all of this basically does, it makes your game as smooth as it was in MW2 and CoD 4. I have absolutely no stuttering with these changes.

See if it works for any of you guys.

Anyone else think the sound is a bit dodge? Most of the guns don't have that punchy feel to it like MW2. I tried the single player last night and sound was so "disconnecting". The background gunfire and ambient noise almost completely drowns out your own gunfire. The sound is the same in mulitplayer with the lack of music it sounds a bit better.

Yeah, mine isn't that bad as well and I am playing on Iburst. Getting anything from 60 - 140 ping. I'm on level 18 already and only got the game yesterday.

We need more HC servers and mosh pit (don't know what it is called now. )

I tried deleting the config file, that didnt help, alltho I see 8 SA servers now rather than the 2 initially. But what changed? I saw all the servers on day 1 ? And everytime I connect or even browse the servers, My wife gets disconnected (says she has no internet connection) WTF? And I have a 4mb line....

Lol at troll, but I'll bite.

Not by a long shot. I'll gladly be patient a couple of days and wait for a patch than aiming with analog, no dedi and rage quits, extra long load times, way inferior graphics, low resolution and then feel ripped off by paying a premium price for the game as well.

Bad news G, you have to UNINSTALL the game THEN delete the ENTIRE Black Ops folder under steam, then REinstall and voila! Bob's your uncle.

The difference between day 1 and now is that they limited the amount of servers being displayed in game because of traffic on the backend. Go to www.gameservers.com and check out their forums. All the latest news regarding this launch fiasco is there...

I brought my home pc to work today and same shyte... so its not my line or setup at home !

Browser issues: The latest update is that there is progress on the in-game browser in displaying all of the servers. ETA is still unknown but this work is at the highest severity levels to have completed.

In Game Lag: A rollout of an increase to the sv_maxRate from 5000 to 25000 will be issued today. Instructions on how to do this on your server will come once it has been rolled out. Keep in mind that this parameter tune will help with some aspects of lag that has been seen.

11/10/2010: 6:35pm EST - The changes to all subscriptions have been done to enable sv_maxRate of 25000

In order to activate this change, simply restart your server at your convenience. On restart, the server will come up with the new sv_maxRate Setting

Is the serious lag got to do with the peering issues, cause when I play on international servers I don't get the spike to 999 ping every ten minutes.

I seem to have solved my spikes by blocking these ips, but I don't know if it will help you.

68.142.1.1 - 68.142.255.255
72.165.61.185

These are Limelight and Qwest ips that Steam was sending data to for some reason, at times that correlated to my spikes.

Don't you think this is because you guys are sharing an IP? I know it is a long shot, but maybe gameserver is blocking it somehow or something.

I doubt that its got anything to do with the IP, Screamer and iBurst go through a natted configuration don't they ?? That means literally many people will be on the same IP. I'm doing a clean install to see if it helps...


Ag.... FFS .. its worse, and still only see 8 SA servers....

Also true, but how will your installation affect her connection? This might help for the server browsing problem, but I don't think it will solve your connection problem.
