Smokey, seeing that Cole is suspended for the 1st semi - who are Chelsea going to play at left back to mark Messi?
 
They'll probably play Ivanovic (even Essien or Maloude :)) on that position. Bridge could come in handy had he not left...but yah, Barca will exploit that position since they don't have another natural left back. Eish

Paolo Ferreira? He's the only one that immediately springs to mind, but he will be massacred by Messi :(

Maybe Ivanovic will play there if Bos is back... he is capable of playing across the back four - the only problem is that with Messi moving into the centre - he might have an even bigger problem than he did with Benayoun and Messi is three times the player so...
 
Ya, i see that as a plus for my side. To be honest, i already thought that Cole will be in for a terrible time against Messi. Now with him out, im really looking fowards to that right flank battle.
 
A battle? Are you freakin' insane? It will be a whitewash. Hitler taking over Poland will be considered peanuts compared to what is going to happen to whoever needs to mark Messi. Cole is the only one with the pace to do it... Unless Ivanovic/Ferreira has a lot of luck with them that night - it's a bloody no-go mate...

I am confident that its going to be a Chelsea, Man Utd final...Semi Finals with Barca is not going to be a walk in the park though with a strike force of Henry, Eto, Iniesta and a kid called Messi!! ;-)

Very difficult for any defender to stop a left footed player playing on the right wing and vise versa. They will sprint and cut inside. By the time the defender recovers, the player has only the goalkeeper to beat. But Ferreira or Ivanovic can do just fine since they are all right-footed. Henry on the other side will just cruise.

Realistic? Yes!

I outlined a problem area in our defence with regards to losing Ashley Cole for the first leg. Cole would have been decent against Messi and I am not sure about the other two options. However, up in attack we will cause you problems and midfield is a battle that I will relish watching.

As an aside... I was watching Ronaldinho's goal against Chelsea last night on Youtube... you know the one where he confuses three defenders and kicks the ball in such a way, I don't think anyone but him could have done it. Brings back bad memories... hopefully we passed that comeback moment with the Liverpool game and will be back to our defending best against Barca, Cole notwithstanding.
 
Bolton scored 3 against Chelsea, then Pool scores 4 against you guys.

Any idea what Barca will do to the Chelsea defence?

I cant wait for this game. It is going to be a CRACKER of note. Im still dissapointed that both both ties we have to play the 2nd leg away.
 
Well judging how Bolton scored 3 goals in 10 minutes and Liverpool scored 2 goals in one minute, surely Chelsea will have to play 5 or 6 defenders against Barca?
 
Nope - that would kill the midfield/attack and that is the only thing that could get us out of it alive. Drogba to be "Nuisance of the Match" for both legs :D
 
Do you think Chelsea will sit back at Camp Nou and defend 10 man behind the ball like United did in both legs last season?

Or do you think they will hit Barca on the counter or try and go full force and try to score?

Do you really think that after the last two games, Hiddink would gamble on a park the bus strategy? That works if you have utter confidence in your defence, and ours is a shambles this season...

I reckon we will try to control the midfield, snuff out Messi and let Drogba cause numerous problems for you lot. Don't discount the power of the top Drog! :)

It was a great game by both teams on Tuesday night. The only low point in the game was Drogba. He was awful, a disgusting display. He represented everything I hate about football.
 
The only low point in the game was that idiot Mascherano being allowed to stay on the field.

He is an arrogant thug, have not seen him make 1 fair challenge the whole game.

Are you smoking crack?Drog is one of the best target men in the world,who else can you name that can hold off defends like that and still put in powerfuls shots and is a great dribbler?
No I'm not a chelsea fan.
