He looked way off the pace in the world cup. And he mostly came on as a sub.

Mourinho will probably only use him when playing Arsenal. He fukcing allways scores against us.
 
Hopefully Torres leaves which would've meant us only having 2 strikers, plus Drogba is here in a player coach role, he's probably going to mentor Lukaku and bring in Spirit while playing the odd game then next season do it full time.

Leadership and experience in the dressing room. If Cech leaves, it would have left only JT and probably Ivanovic as experienced leaders.

Perhaps. But Drogba is Drogba, and can still intimidate a lot of PL teams with his presence, unlike Torres.
 
José Mourinho: ‘Signing Luke Shaw would have killed Chelsea’

The Chelsea manager, José Mourinho, has said Luke Shaw’s excessive wage demands put him off signing the 19-year-old left-back from Southampton.

Mourinho was interested in Shaw – whose family are Chelsea supporters – but he eventually signed for Manchester United in a deal worth an initial £27m with a reported weekly wage of £130,000 a week. Chelsea ended up signing the Brazilian Filipe Luís from Atlético Madrid instead and after Mourinho made a pre-season jibe at Arsenal last week over his signing of Cesc Fábregas, it was Louis van Gaal’s side this time who were the subject of his attention.

“If we pay to a 19-year-old boy what we were being asked for, to sign Luke Shaw, we are dead,” he said. “We would have killed our stability with financial fair play and killed the stability in our dressing room.

“Because when you pay that much to a 19-year-old kid – a good player, fantastic player – but when you pay that amount of money, the next day, we would have had players knocking on our door.

“They would have been saying, ‘How is it possible I play 200 games for this club, won this and that, yet a 19-year-old comes here and gets more money than I get?’

“It would’ve killed immediately our balance and we couldn’t allow that. I don’t criticise another club for paying it. They can pay what they want. I don’t have any comment about it. But for my club we can say it would be very negative for us, especially when we can say Felipe is much less expensive. Sometimes you have to make decisions.”

He is actually right. The club are lowering the wage bill season after season. Even Drogba is back on 40k a week. Other than Hazard, Fabregas, Torres, Cech, Costa and Terry, no other players have a wage higher than 90k.

While we signed two players who have wages in excess of 100k a week, they are offset by the players we have let leave.

Also, it indicates that the fee for Shaw wan't a problem for the club in the end. A shame that we couldn't get him as a long term solution, but best of luck to him at United.
 
Mourinho being Mourinho as usual. Can't wait for his excuses if Chelsea don't win the League this season.
 
It's true, our wage bill was actually lower than Arsenals last season, plus United have Rooney on like 300k pounds a week and that 19 year old boy is on 100k a week, clearly that **** can't fly at Chelsea.
 
I suggest you guys stream the match tonight, the early exit world cup boys are playing.
 
I have to say even as a United Supporter, Im really excited to see them all play - great squad

Mourinho-style is what won Real Madrid the CL last season. :)

That being said- I do think that he want to play a more expansive game now. Signs have been there in pre-season, and I think that he really believes that this squad doesn't need to sit back against opponents anymore.

I'm just waiting for the rest of the squad to join up and work with the new players. Hopefully Oscar and Willian have had plenty of rest.

There's absoultely nothing wrong with counter attacking football, plus we only played like that against the top teams, and we only parked the bust against Atletico away and Liverpool away. Most of the time we play a type of possession attacking football. People who say we only play defensive have no idea what they're talking about and just want to contribute to the false circle jerk.

Yep, but I didn't want to get into that :) I mean, Mourinho's teams are usually in the top 3 in terms of goals scored each season, and he holds the record in one of the most free scoring leagues in Europe.

Dortmund have been lauded for years, despite being a counterattacking team. Same too, with the LFC team of last season.

I'm happy with the way the club play, because I know that there is a long term plan about all of this. I'm patient enough to wait it out.
