Phil Neville for next Everton manager?

With Fabio Capello's recent departure from the England job, the re-shuffling of positions at the national team set up has this week created a new opportunity for Everton's Phil Neville, who has taken on a new part time role as a coach of the England U-21s.

This appointment could be interesting for Everton also, as it may be seen as another signifcant step down the road towards management for Neville, a man who has increasing looked like management material as his career has progessed. As Neville nears the end of a loyal and successful career, who would back against him taking over from David Moyes at Everton, once Moyes decides to cut his teeth elsewhere and look for a new challenge?

Neville's captaincy of Everton FC has been tremendous since he arrived at the club, and his under valued experience at the top of the game has been shown throughout, consistently lead by example both on and off the field. Neville has earnt the respect of his teammates and the fans, and on matchdays, Neville can be often heard screaming at his counterparts, as he demands nothing short of 100% from everyone involved, constantly striving for success.

All of this bodes well for Neville in the future, and he would make a great young manager in my eyes. No doubt he has also learnt a great deal from the two top managers he has worked under, Alex Ferguson and David Moyes. Obviously Moyes is still the man for the blues at the moment, as he continues to work wonders on a shoestring budget at the club, making astute signings and clever loan deals to keep Everton competing against clubs who continue to outspend the club significantly.

However, if Harry Redknapp takes the England job, this could result in a managerial merry go round, possibly presenting Moyes with a great opportunity at Spurs (which he may find hard to refuse), and maybe Phil Neville being required to step up to a management role at Everton sooner than expected.

Manchester United 4-4 Everton
Battling Everton came back strongly to deny Manchester United victory in a stunning Barclays Premier League match at Old Trafford.
The draw left United six points ahead of closest title rivals Manchester City - with their neighbours playing their game in hand at Wolves later on Sunday.

After a quiet opening, Nikica Jelavic produced a clever header from a tight angle to put the visitors in front, but Wayne Rooney nodded in Luis Nani's cross to level before half time.
United seemingly took control as Danny Welbeck thumped in a superb second, then Welbeck turned provider for Nani to neatly chip in. Everton's Marouane Fellaini rifled in a great finish to make it 3-2, but Rooney's second - his 26th Barclays Premier League goal of the season, and one which put him fourth on United's all-time goalscorer list - seemed to have swung things decisively in United's favour.

Yet there was time for a final twist in the final 10 minutes as Jelavic hammered in his second, then Steven Pienaar pounced to slot home to make it 4-4.
