Also, the Nexus 7 and "iPad Air/Mini" are all at different price points. For what I paid for my Nexus 7, it has exceeded by expectations

Compared to my iPad air its slow. The iPad opens a web page is split seconds whereas the Nexus takes it time about it. There are some good word processing apps in the android store but nothing comes close to Apples app suite (Numbers, Pages, etc). The stock mail apps also suck. Can't even copy text from an email.
I like the nexus for its size but its got a way to go go match the iPad.
You're comparing a Nexus 7 to a tablet considerably bigger (and more expensive) than it? And on top of it, using the speed of the web browser opening as the benchmark? Oh boy... what about real world performance and multitasking?
And you can't knock the tablet, because Android doesn't have as great a word processing app as iOS does in your opinion- that's ridiculous.
Not sure why you have issues copying text from a mail, that works perfectly. I agree that you most likely have a faulty unit.
Don't want to start a flame war here, but I have to say +1.
Not sure on rumors of the Nexus 8 but I think that will compete with the iPad mini
I'm happy with my Nexus 7, especially the full HD screen why you would wanna go retina on such a small device makes no sense.
I don't mind the comparison to the Mini- I did that in my assessment, and acknowledged that the best tablet overall is the retina Mini (IMO, of course). But in certain areas, the Nexus 7 would be the winner (larger gamut screen, price, ease of interconnectivity) without a detailed comparison necessary. And to compare it to a tablet that is considerably bigger is an unfair assessment.
The iPad does not have the same value for money as the Nexus, but it targets a higher bracket of the market. Nothing wrong with that.
Battery life on it? I would use it a lot for watching movies and series, and Skype when I'm away from the Mrs.
Hi there folks.
Since getting the LG G2 I've fallen for the Knock On feature - or DT2W (Double Tap To Wake) as it is being called - and by heaven it is something I'd love on my Nexus 7 as I already find myself absent mindlessly tapping the screen to switch it on. Having to pick it up and pressing that power button is a tad annoying. And no...I don't have a flip mag cover and no I am not interested in one
To my delight I see they have stripped the android code from the G2 for that feature and have incorporated it into a few kernels alreadyhappiness.
So for the folks that run a rooted tab...which kernel en Rom are you running and which recovery? TWRP / CWM? CleanRom? etc?
Your thought? I've just now dived into the N7 roms and kernels and damnit I have some research to do...

Check a custom kernel, I have the feature on my Nexus 7 2013. Swipe to sleep and double tap to wake. There's also a sweep to wake
Which kernel are you running?
Read great things about BulletProof, Glitch, X...something or other...
And are you only running the kernel, or do you have a custom rom as well?
ElementalX-N7-2.6 stock kit kat 4.4.2
That's the one yes!
Guess I'll go for that one.
Running custom recovery Cwm or Twrp?
Shap. Thanks for the quick info
