Official Google Nexus 7 Thread

Got 4.1.2 on mine....
Home screen now rotates....

Anyways I also have received more stock and the current price R2950 with a free screen protector...

@vulk, nice post. Always good to see what "the other guy" is using on his tablet :)

Have you got Tapatalk for social media? Also perhaps the MyBB apps for the forum?

MyBB App is Tapatalk - but for one forum.
Last time I used it I could not see a benefit to it and I ended up with both Tapatalk and MyBB installed cause there are other forums I also frequent (XDA, Slatedroid, etc). Has it changed?

Only benefit is that it's free for users because mybb paid a bundle for it.

Do you perhaps have a 32 gb model in a 16 gb marked box - like the Japanese guy got ;-)

Yeah, I've installed Tapatalk for forums. The old smartphone version that is, not the new tablet-optimised beta. The tablet version only works in landscape mode, and I feel like the N7 is more natural to use in portrait.

I must say, apart from the apps I already mentioned above, I haven't found a lot of apps to install that really take advantage of the N7's additional screen real estate. It's honestly a bit disappointing. I would have thought that after the commercial success of the Nexus, the Kindle Fire and the Nook Colour, there would be more developers targeting this form factor. As it stands, the only apps that really seem to be guaranteed to work perfectly on the 7" screen are the first-party Google apps.

Maybe we can start making a combined list of apps that work well on 7" tablets?

Can't say I have noticed any apps that don't work well on the N7. All games work great, Facebook, Flipboard, News 24, EverNote etc etc. . . All work fine.

See, Flipboard to my mind is a good example of an app that is not optimised for the N7. It's basically just a big version of the smartphone interface. What it should have is a scaled-down version of the Flipboard for iPad UI. Seriously, go use Flipboard on an iPad to get an idea of what you're missing out on.

Evernote I agree with; this has a fantastic UI on the N7. If anyone wants to go along with my idea of making a combined list of awesome Nexus 7 apps, this is definitely going on the list.

Facebook I haven't tried on the N7. I'm not a heavy Facebook user, and I find their app to be pretty crappy on my phone, so I didn't bother installing it on my tablet. But I remember reading on a blog somewhere about a nice, Holo-themed Facebook client that is optimised for 7" tablets. Unfortunately I can't remember what it was called.

i wanna get it next month....hope the price wont go up!!

Another example is my favourite calculator, RealCalc.

It's awesome on my phone, but on the N7 it's just way too big. Reminds me of one of those cheap huge calculators that lowly clerks get given, so they don't go "missing".

Maybe you guys have a point. Now that you mention it some apps do look a bit odd, I always find the play store app looks like it has been blown up to size. Would be nice if they release more apps optimized for the N7.

Updated to 4.1.2 earlier tonight :)

Is it an official update?

Edit: Ok, probably not official, my device says no updates found.

Sounds a little suspicious to me. Hopefully someone else can confirm whether or not this is indeed normal.

What is Esquire's price at the moment?
