Nexus 7 3G 32GB

When is the LTE version coming? Is there one?

I ordered a Nexus 7 32GB (R2995) from firsttech-office.co.za yesterday for my wife. I enquired about the 3G or LTE version and the guy said they are getting stock in a weeks time. As my wife works from home, wi-fi only is fine for her but for me being on the road I wanted the 3G model. Needless to say, First Tech delivered early this morning (excellent service) and after playing with the wi-fi only unit I decided to buy the 3G unit.

In short: it's coming in a week's time BUT...
they said they are only receiving a couple due to a worldwide shortage caused by demand. After playing with it for the last couple of hours I can see why.

Can anyone advise if the device is LTE or full 4G enabled and does it matter?

If you are worried about the 3g stuff, get an android phone, use the portable wifi hotspot or bluetooth hotspot feature.... Problem solved. (in other words you connect via wifi or bt to your phone and use its internet connection, no need for all these mifi type of devices unless you are looking for a fixed solution at home. Irony is your phone battery most likely last longer than these little wifi hotspot modems)

That is what I do and works great, advantage to this is, i only need 1 data contract and basically share it via my phone.

As for whatsapp, again if you are on an android phone you actually do get apps for the tablet to "remote" to your phone and basically control the phone and it's apps on the tablet screen. You can already do this with sms typing without doing anything funny, the app is called "remote web desktop".

So if I understand correctly, Asus will officially be bringing the 3G N7 to SA?

Seeing that the you can get the WIFI N7 quite easily now....

So how does it work?
you need to be rooted
get ppp app from the playstore + usb modem for 3g
stickmount for external drives

if you not rooted, you can use nexus media importer or something
but i think it has some limitations
