Official Google Nexus 7 Thread

That's stupid. If it's capable it should support it

Is it not supported on the iPad?

Whatsapp is based on your phone no. and those in your contact list.

WiFi only tablets don't have that - there is a solution via rooting your device and XDA info

To complicated for my liking

It's not WiFi only. Anyway. Will figure it out. Bought the tablet for my mum

It's wifi and 3G, but try make a phone call and see what happens. If your tablet can't make phone calls natively then it won't support whatsapp or viber.

IC's R3.3k for the wireless 32GB version looks quite tempting. Only R300 more than Kalahari which is pretty good for them...

Where can I get a otg? I know its in the thread but can't seem to find it

They've had it for R3k, hifi corp also has it for R3k often.

IC at Big Bay only had three items at this price and they were all gone when I got there early this morning. Pretty poor show really. Have got it from Kalahari for R300 less (delivery free). Your loss IC.

I got the last one at IC Centurion yesterday. There were problems with cards from Absa, Nedbank and FNB and they were totally uninterested in contacting the banks to get the transaction through. I walked out in disgust and was halfway home when I got an SMS from the bank that the transaction had gone through.

I went back and they then went through all the telephone tricks to get the transaction verified...

On topic, it's a bit small for my liking. It feels only marginally bigger than my Note. My missus prefers the 8" Prestigio in spite of the huge performance advantage and resolution difference.

Hello N7 owners.

I am in the market for a tablet. So this basically means the iPad the N7 or N10 (I have a family member coming down from the USA in a month who can procure one for me)

I would like to know if you guys really enjoy your device and what sort of use cases have made the device great for you? sorry if this question sounds a bit like a survey but I would like to know what kind of tablet I should be getting. Probably for content consumption, morning forum lurking, youtubing and redditing.

I dont feel like getting an iPad since I have a few paid-for apps on my gmail alreaddy so I guess im stuck on this platform. I have a Nexus 4 so perhaps a N7 or N10 would be a great little addition to my arsenal.

exactly what I use mine for
also use it as a xbmc remote to control my microserver and few other things
the size is perfect for me, 10" would be too big...

The device is great. But there is a charging issue if you allow your N7 to die completely, and it's affected many users: http://mobotechie.com/android/how-to-fix-nexus-7-not-charging-problem-ultimate-guide

Watch out for that. I don't think Google have released a bug fix for it just yet, but hopefully it will come out soon.

I would personally go for the Samsung Galaxy Note 8, which was recently announced, and which should be available in the next 2-3 months. It's going to cost a lot more, probably double the price, but I would get it for the following reasons:
- S-Pen - great for writing, taking notes, etc.
- More accessories available locally and online for Samsung devices than Asus, as Samsung is more popular
- Note 8 is thinner, by quite a bit
- Has s secondary 5MP camera - not an issue if you don't need one, but always nice to have one
- Has the ability to control Samsung Smart TVs. AFAIK, there is no official Samsung app for non-Samsung tablets

That said, I still really enjoy my N7, and

I reckon the new Samsung 8" maybe something worth waiting for. I'm beginning to think I prefer using my Note 1 to the Nexus 7

Not so sure about spending over R6k on a tablet. I am a student so money is a big issue. I have an LG 42" LED so thats not an issue wrt the remote app (also im sure you could just brute force install the apk if u really wanted the ap)

So if I let my N7 get to 0% charge, it will fail sheesh? also not in the mood for a skinned tablet, since I loathe TouchWhiz with a passion I am going to say nooit to the note 8.

Never had the problem of not charging, had problems with incorrect battery stats though

Plugged in my XBox 360 controller into the Nexus 10, plugged the HDMI cable into the TV and was playing GTA 3 as if it was a games console :D:D:D

That and XBMC in bed...
