OFFICIAL HTC Desire Thread

Price came again down on expansys.co.za where I got mine. Have an upgrade due next month, thinking of getting a 'spare' :) but unfortunately it will be a Leafed one.

Welcome to the (posting) forum man! Well I have had mine for a while now, and some of the things I have noticed: (Sure there are explanations for all this, Im just to lazy)

- Every now and then (couple of days) it asks me in the notification bar to select time and date.
- I have had a couple of times that I woke up in the morning and have no service at all, and hear from people they were trying to phone me the entire night, then I have to restart the phone and its fine. (Could be vodacom related, but never with my old phone)
- Txt messages have the same problem as above, I sometimes have to send a SMS 3 times before it goes according to the phone, but then the person receives all 3 messages anyway. (Again didn't happen with my old phone and could just be vodacom)
- Android Market downloading does not work on WIFI for me. Have to be on 3G.
- Battery power is awe full... (All smart phones probably but still have to charge every night)
- Limited on board storage is very annoying unless you plan to root it.

That's all I can think of right now and its not show stoppers for me at all. Just things that could have been done better I guess and of course the pro's of the phone is so limitless that the couple of con's is absolutely nothing compared! Hope that help's a little... Enjoy it when you receive it!

Okay, I have had mine for 2 weeks...I got the date/location thing yesterday, but it was after switching off, removing the battery to look at the memory card. That is one thing some people dislike about the phone btw. Other than that I have not had any of the problems mentioned above, except storage space, but when Froyo is released or you root, storage space will be limited by the memory card size. You should get a 4gb with the phone. Another note, my previous phone was an htc tytn 2, and i always had c@c reception at home. Now things are much better, not as good as vodascum reception, but this phone is a pleasure in that regard! Amd i was considering porting back to vc...

I rooted mine, no more annoying date time popup... but i think thats got to do with the settings, you might have daylight savings or something switched on
 
I have it on very good authority that there's a minor update to the Desire coming out in the next few weeks, leaf is just waiting for service provider approval.
 
My bro and I are looking in to picking this phone up, we're on MTN MyCall 135 (i think it's called) through Nashua Mobile, with an sms bundle.. So we'll prob upgrade to Anytime 200. We're due for an upgrade, does anyone know how this works? Is it just basically like signing a new contract with less paperwork?

Any ideas on how much a once off pay-in would be for the Anytime 200 contract via Nashua Mobile?

BTW @ Opium, some personal advice dont waste your time with Nasua mobile, they are useless, see them on hello peter, i personally know 10 people who having endless issues with Nasua mobile, rather go to the Service provider of your choice directly

Yes there is a major upgrade called Froyo which makes you be able to kick any iphone 4G sideways.. forget leaf, root your fone and you can upgrade free from XDA forums

I'd rather not void my warranty if I can avoid it. And the update obviously isnt to Froyo - still 2.1, but it fixes a bunch of bugs and small issues. I gather it's the same update that came in the UK shortly after the Desire was launched there. If so then leaf is certainly improving on the amount of time it takes to get updates released here.

you can still unroot your desire if you want for warranty:
