Official ICC 2015 CWC thread

This teams Achilles heal remains their kuk coaching team. Domnigo is barely a provincial standard coach, never mind a national coach.

What this and every SA national team needs is mental toughness and a coach who can instill this. Ray Jennings comes to mind.

Anyway. We should qualify for the knock out stages but I don't think it's going to get any easier from there.

Must say the low scoring games have been the better to watch so far. Even this one, although we lost

The alternative is to shift QdK down the order, but who do you open with? And it doesn't strengthen the bowling unless you drop either Abbot (who doesn't deserve it) or JP who can be a rock when he's in form, and that rock may be needed. I feel shifting batting orders and changing the team is not a dynamic we should be playing with right now. It's high risk, minimal reward.

Why does everybody always just ignore Morkel lol if Abbot is playing better than him right now and can add some proper end of innings bowling with his yorkers surely we drop our weakest bowling which for this tournament has been Morkel?

No man. Faf too slow to finish so must bat in top 3, and AB doesn't want to move higher so JP can bat at 4.

Like I said Amla, Faf, AB, JP would be the best ODI top 4 in world cricket!

If we can't win with RR, Miller&QdK at 5-7, then we don't deserve to be playing at this level.

The issue is not team selection. This issue is mindset.

Apparently this is the first time South Africa has gone to a CWC without a team psychologist.

They didn't deem it necessary to. Wtf.

At least the huge net run rate keeps us above Paki at the moment.

I can't understand why AB didn't bat first. We are really useless at chasing...

Morkel runs hot and cold. He can be devastating on Australian-type surfaces, but he can also be very expensive at the same time. If we look at today's performance, it wasn't necessarily the bowling that let us down. It was the middle-order batsmen, and I feel we should be looking at changing the right things for the right reasons, rather than risk making rash decisions on a whim because of historical performance.

I don't believe that Morkel has lost his "strike" ability. I think teams have become more accustomed to playing him, is all. But on the right pitch he remains an absolute handful and can win us matches.

You basically answered your own question there,yes Morkel was a great ODI bowler in the past but in his current form he is not,you play the best in form players first from your 15,that's how you win games and World Cups,not by keeping players in games out of loyalty to what they are capable of when they are in form.Don't drop him from the team,just give somebody else a chance is all I'm saying.

Imagine Philander,Steyn,Abbott and Imi charging the attack in this match.Pakistan would've been restricted to much less on this good bowling pitch.
