Well done to the Aussies.

That went more or less as expected though - they did to New Zealand what a fully firing SA bowling quartet should have done.

Despite our weaker bowling attack, I do think we would have given have them a better run in the final.

Ah well, 4 more years to wait...

Brendon McCullum named captain of World Cup team

MELBOURNE, Australia (AP) - New Zealand opener Brendon McCullum gained some small consolation by being named captain of the team of the World Cup on Monday, a day after the Black Caps lost the final by seven wickets to Australia.

McCullum scored 328 runs in nine matches with four half-centuries, but was out for a duck in the first over of the final.

The team chosen by an International Cricket Council panel included four other New Zealanders - Corey Anderson, Trent Boult, Martin Guptill and Daniel Vettori.

There were three Australians - Glenn Maxwell, Steven Smith and Mitchell Starc - two South Africans, A.B. de Villiers and Morne Morkel, and Sri Lanka's Kumar Sangakkara as wicketkeeper-batsman.

Starc was also named player of the tournament following Sunday's final at the Melbourne Cricket Ground.

Michael Clarke was on the pitch an hour before the team bus left the hotel, visualising.

Would like to know what mental preps the saffers made?

This how we prepare...

http://www.rdm.co.za/sport/2015/03/30/how-cricket-sa-bosses-forced-de-villiers-to-play-philander

Cricket SA‘s board hung Vernon Philander out to dry by demanding his selection for the World Cup semifinal, making captain AB de Villiers reluctant to play in the match, say sources close to the Proteas.
A selector said the panel “had to okay four players of colour” for last Tuesday‘s semifinal, in which Philander was thrust in from the cold after an injury lay-off to play alongside Hashim Amla, Imran Tahir and JP Duminy.
“AB didn‘t want to play in the semi because of this; it is a clear case of interference by the board — they ordered Philander‘s selection,” said a well-placed source who declined to be named.
“It was a purely political decision. The players are fuming about it but they won‘t say so.”
De Villiers could not be reached for comment.
Tony Irish, chief executive of the SA Cricketers‘ Association, refused to comment.

Nothing against the bespectacled one, but would've picked Tahir instead as the spin option.

...

A good pick as captain. He lead strongly from the front.

100% agree with your sentiments iro Vettori. It is a complete brain-fart to include him ahead of Tahir.

I refrain from the colour comment, but take exception to some of the players in the "World IX":

1: McCullum (c) (NZ)
2: Guptill (NZ)
3: Sangakkara (wk) (SL)
4: Smith (AUS)
5: De Villiers (SA)
6: Maxwell (AUS)
7: Anderson (NZ)
8: Vettori (NZ)
9: Starc (AUS)
10: Boult (NZ)
11: Morkel (SA)

For one, how the heck does Guptill get in ahead of Rohit Sharma? And Vettori in ahead of Tahir is just pure madness. Dhoni's absence is another problem with the list. And I fail to see how Wahab Riaz was overlooked.

Or zero players from the Indian side

Then why is the article in this thead, does it look like the jokes section ? (Don't answer)

this is why

This is a parody, but also a slight glimpse into what it's like in the world of Proteas cricket. The issue of transformation is a given in South Africa given its political history, but it has become a joke through mis-management and supreme lack of vision and expertise.

OT I see our u19s getting hammered by the mighty Bangladesh in a one day series. Since Jennings was sacked they haven't been able to win s hit!
