Proteas will lose to one of WI or PAK and I'm betting WI.

Gayle&Dwayne Smith will fire at some point. The WI middle&lower order has been superb with Darren Bravo&Samuels doing ok, while all of Ramdin, Simmons, Russell&Sammy have delivered with the bat. I expect those six alone to get 260+ runs against us, 320+ if Gayle&Smith come to the party. Let's not forget Taylor can hold a bat too.

Roach will be brought back in place of Benn, to join Holder, Taylor, Russell&Sammy who have been bowling beautifully.

They have a better attack than India in my opinion, so I have us as 2nd favourites.

WI seems to be the new Pakistan, on their day they can be lethal.
If SA are complacent they might find themselves out of their depth again.
If they expect the same performance WI had in SA they already on the back foot.

They also playing at the SCG, so wont be easy.

Also if WI beat Zim tomorrow they will come hard at us.

SA made 177.

You said 307 should be easy to chase down. I'm merely pointing out that it has never been done there before batting 2nd, therefore, not so easy.

I thought our fielding was very good but our bowling rubbish!!

What's worrying is the team that wins the toss and bats first seems to have a significant advantage. That could well influence the outcome of the final! Clearly MCG is a place to bat first!

Is the final a day game or day-night? Batting at night seems to be alot tougher than during the day.

SA were okay in the field apart from Amla's drop...he takes that and we could have been chasing significantly less. Who knows how Parnell would have gone with a wicket early on? And how India would have responded to losing Dhawan for 50? Could have been a whole different ball game.

I wouldn't credit the woeful batting by SA to Indian bowling. I recall both QDK and Amla getting out to poor strokes. Beyond their dismissals it is all a blur in my mind.

And regarding the 307 India scored - if Parnell was worth his status as a bowler, he would have gone for 60/65, and not 85, and we would've been chasing 282/287 - less pressure on our batsmen.

Amla looked strangely out of sorts, though, no timing, having to force it - maybe it's his 1 out of 100 bad games out of the way now.

And the running was just diabolical. 2 runs less is a lot less harmful than 2 more wickets, although credit must go to the excellent fielding as well - but we didn't really need to take those risks.

Our biggest problem is not having all-rounders of the calibre of Pollock/Klusener any more, or even Dean Hall/Justin Kemp, who weren't spectacular, but were at least more reliable.

I dunno credit where it is due I think India bowled and fielded very well wickets 5,6,7, really went quickly and the pressure was on..

How that should have happened so early on is a mystery to me. After the first 2 wickets the focus should have been on keeping wickets rather than runs

I don't think quotas officially apply to the national team. I know the selectors are "encouraged" to pick non-white players but I can't remember seeing anything that says 2 players must be non-white (for example).

Quotas definitely apply at first class level.

So you think they HAVE to announce it publicly? Ministers can just pull in the coach and tell him "Pick so many, or...". Not sure what makes you believe we have to be made aware of it...

Because we are made aware of it for rugby (all levels that quotas apply) and cricket (at first class level)...why would the Proteas be any different?

What you're suggesting would not stand any logical test...tying a coach / selectors hands behind his back and leaving him to deal with the consequences would come out as soon as that selector or coach's contract was up. He'd also have a ready-made excuse for any poor performances that his team put up that no-one could argue against.

I am sure Dean would be happy with being called a cricketing all rounder but the guy you are looking for is Andrew Hall.

Really? You're that naive? So you fully believe that Parnell and Behardien is in the squad on merit, and David Wiese being much better than both of them, but sitting in SA, is just an unfortunate lapse of judgement on the coach's part?

If Parnell didnt go for 9 an over, Behardien or Abbott would have.
Parnell is a wicket taking bowler, you need to use him wisely, it was a shlep that Phillander was injured and Parnell had to be used out of his normal role. 307 was a good score to restrain India to in my opinion.
Dhoni, Kohli, Sharma could have all fired with any bowling combos we have, 320+ was on the cards.
