I don't agree with the statement that our tail is too long.

Simply put there are 5 recognized batsmen and they need to start doing their damned jobs. Even if it's just one or two of them as demonstrated by India yesterday. We took quick wickets at the end but that meant nothing because the base had been built already.

If our bowlers don't want to bat they also need to stop their **** and get some discipline, the wickets will come if they simply apply pressure and stop bleeding runs. We allowed India 50-60 runs too many yesterday, 40 of those from Parnell.

Batsmen are going to have an off day and in some cases they may go through a bad patch. If even one of them goes through a wobble for a few games we have 4 - 5 players to score 250-odd runs because our tail cannot be trusted to come up with more than 30/40 runs between them. There is an enormous amount of pressure on the batsmen to bat through the innings because once Miller or Duminy are knocked over bowling attacks are into our soft belly. The Aussies, even when down to Johnson at #9/10, have faith that they can get a few quick runs out of him and if he comes in early and one of the batsmen are still standing, they can trust him to stick around.

I won't say I wasn't worried about our bowling performance, but I did take note of the fact we were bowling first in batsman friendly conditions against one of the most powerful batting line ups in world cricket. To keep them to 'only' 300 I thought was a fairly respectable effort. I was however alarmed at the way our top order capitulated again and asking Duminy and Miller to reproduce their heroics of last week was a bridge too far.

I still think we'll qualify for the QF's but that we're now going to come up against a rampant NZ or Aus.

We should finish 2nd in our pool, meaning we will play 3rd placed team in Pool A. NZ and OZ should end 1st and 2nd, with either Sri Lanka or England finishing 3rd.

Either way we would avoid NZ/OZ in the quarters (1st or 2nd in our pool). Losing isn't the end of the world but the margin and the nature of the defeat could really have a negative effect on the teams confidence. Alternatively it could galvanize them towards working and trying harder. The more serious concern is that they simply not good enough.

If it wasnt Parnell it would be whoever the 5th bowler was. But Parnell did bowl bad, then again AB didnt use him properly either.

Proteas will lose to one of WI or PAK and I'm betting WI.

Gayle&Dwayne Smith will fire at some point. The WI middle&lower order has been superb with Darren Bravo&Samuels doing ok, while all of Ramdin, Simmons, Russell&Sammy have delivered with the bat. I expect those six alone to get 260+ runs against us, 320+ if Gayle&Smith come to the party. Let's not forget Taylor can hold a bat too.

Roach will be brought back in place of Benn, to join Holder, Taylor, Russell&Sammy who have been bowling beautifully.

They have a better attack than India in my opinion, so I have us as 2nd favourites.

I wouldn't credit the woeful batting by SA to Indian bowling. I recall both QDK and Amla getting out to poor strokes. Beyond their dismissals it is all a blur in my mind.

I thought our fielding was very good but our bowling rubbish!!

What's worrying is the team that wins the toss and bats first seems to have a significant advantage. That could well influence the outcome of the final! Clearly MCG is a place to bat first!

Hardly an excuse, WI made 299, Aus 297, Aus 291 batting second
SA made 177.

Oh for sure - we were faecal with the bat. But the game was already 60-40 (maybe more?) in India's favour by the time the first innings was completed. Then they came out and bowled really well which tilted it even more.

Still not enough reason to lose by the margin we did.
