Official ICC 2015 CWC thread

Nice to read positive opinions of Rabada all round. He's outbowled a lot of guys - Rory, Morris, Beuran Marchant etc so he has the goods. But the fact remains Tsotsobe has outbowled him everytime, and that's a world class bowler who's way ahead of him. I do not understand why people dance around this issue. I think guys just can't bring themselves to admit that he's better than Steyn&Morkel in this format, and that with a brand new ball in his hand only Philander comes close to what he can do. Like I said long before, failing to take wickets up front was always going to be our biggest issue without him in the team, and every game we play against Full Members will prove that. The people responsible could see that Morkel was no longer a force, Philander's re-emergence in ODIs gave us false hope, while Steyn has played fat too few ODI in 18 months that even though his record was good, his bad games were really bad. It almost essential that Abbott was picked, now we're stick with Abbott who fetches all the time despite a new ball advantage. We have a backup that we're afraid to use.

Parnell won't be dropped. He's proven many times what he's capable of. Plus he's still young and has that experience. What he lacks is responsibility&faith entrusted to him. He'll get that soon - lead the attack&open the bowing. Rabada will join him of course, it's happened already. While Marchant will complete the trio of our frontline seamers. The problem right now is who will be that 4th seamer who can really bat too. All the options people kep saying are old or have failed to prove themselves - Morris, Albie, Frylinck etc. I still say Ayabulela Gqamane. That's who they need to develop.

Rabada 14/105 vs Dolphins

Well bowled, son!!

The problem is Abbott will be sent back to domestic and outbowl everyone simply because the best youngsters (QdK, RR, SvZ, Reeza) can't handle swing, and he'll look better than the other seam options - Viljoen, Morris, McLaren, Shezi etc when we've seen he just doesn't cut it at international level.

The seamer that can bat should be Parnell. Everyone knows he has the potential, but he is not consistent enough. Yet anyway.
I just feel that some of his off field antics cost him a couple of years of where he ia and should be.

I agree Tsotsobe would have been the better choice, but there are reasons other than performance that he is not in the team and likely wont be in the near future. Nothing we can do about that. With the guys in the squad, Behardien might be our best bet. We cant go with Abbot because then our tail is even longer and with Rilee we are short a bowler. Granted, Duminy cant do worse bowling all 10 than Parnell but have him share with Behardien and you get the odd unexpected wicket.

Lets hope this loss is a good wakeup for the guys. On a sidenote, AB fielded brilliantly today but I still think he is a better captain when keeping...or at least he does better overall when keeping. Opens up Rilee as a choice.

Just getting the choking out of the way now so it won't be a problem later.

Lobsy has become really fat and currently eating cake with Gibbs in the SABC studio so he can't even be mentioned in this thread.

Must look forward. I think in Parnell they want an alrounder and Abbot cant bat so like Stefan says our tail gets longer.

What about David Wiese getting a callup to replace Philly?

Think he can become a damn good alrounder.

"You always feel the pressure of chasing 300, like playing shots you may not want to," said de Villiers. "But the top six are there to win games. Two run-outs in the top five is not what we want.

"It was a disappointing performance with both bat and ball. No excuses, we should have come up better today."

The captain said losing the toss and batting second under lights contributed to South Africa's defeat.

"It was a good wicket to bat on in the afternoon," he said. "But there was wear and tear in the evening. Without making excuses, I can say it was a bit two-paced as the match went on.

"It was a big knock for us to be beaten by 130 runs. We need to lick our wounds a while because confidence takes a knock."

However, de Villiers was confident his team, who've now won one and lost one at this tournament after seeing off Zimbabwe, will bounce back for their Pool B game against the West Indies in Sydney on Friday.

"We have a mature group of players," he said. "We need to regroup before Friday and I am confident we will bounce back."

Yeah but unlike Ethy Mbhalati, at least he got a couple of internationals :D. I only watched him once though, and it was live, the T20 against the Aussies, hard to judge properly so I can't really say he deserved more games than Abbott has got. But he can't be worse. At least he got you at least a wicket per match judging from his international stats :D.

I'm also hoping it's the kick in the pants they needed. Things looked a bit casual in the field though losing Vern hurt.

Ultimately that's sport...some days you just have to put up your hand and say we weren't good enough and the other team was better on the day.

We are trying to fix the wrong things because our atack won't do well until Steyn&Morkel start churning out Southee/Mitch/Starc like performances, whoever we put up next to them - Abbott/Parnell/Phangiso.

Where we can make a significant change is in the batting.

I say Faf open with Amla, drop QdK, and bring in RR lower in the order, say 4/5.

At least with Rilee after thes low returns we'd expect a ton next game. :D

With QdK I really hold no hope at this stage.

There is the small matter of droping in the rankings after a poor CWC and having to recover for the Champions Trophy. Make no mistake, we can drop that low. I think we've got tough tours coming up like another one to AUS&ENG where we can get blanked. Even Bangladesh in their conditions can thump us like they've done repeatedly to NZ. I'm sorry but the Proteas still need Tsotsobe. ;)

Bangladesh ended his ODI career.
