Official ICC 2015 CWC thread

On the bright side, only Gayle is really getting batting practice. The other 8 are gonna suck! :p

Masakadza to Gayle, OUT, and he tries to go for the sixes record with a powerful bludgeon down the ground as he ends up top-edging a catch high to midwicket, which is taken safely in the end
CH Gayle c Chigumbura b Masakadza 215 (147b 10x4 16x6) SR: 146.25

Epic innings comes to an end. Just wow! :) And I go back to work... :o but not before I castigate the Zimbabwe bowlers for reinvigorating the West Indies ahead of our clash with them

Some comments:

6.06 pm So how do I begin? West Indies rack up a massive total of 372 for 2, with Chris Gayle leading the way with the first World Cup double hundred. This was a record that was always pinned to him to break, and he has managed to do it on one of the biggest stages you could ever perform. His final score of 215 leaves him third in the list, after Rohit (264) and Sehwag (219) in terms of ODI individual high scores. The 372-run stand between Gayle and Samuels is the most ever for any wicket in ODIs, not to mention Gayle having matched AB and Rohit on the sixes record with 16.

Comments from the man of the moment:

Chris Gayle: Getting a bit of cramps, but feeling a bit tired. We still have 50 overs to get through. I didn't want to be out with the first ball. I said "you can't be serious?" I just want to thank god for this knock. I was under pressure to score runs, and I kept getting messages from twitter and on my cell phone. I have never felt this kind of pressure, but in the end, I am sure I gave them something to talk about. It was a bit slow at the start, not to mention keeping it low. I just tried to take the bull by the horns and hang out there and try and build an innings. After a while I was able to pick a bowler to target and then, in the end, I was out off the last ball (chuckles). A lot of time people don't know what you are going through as I had some issues with injuries. I am also not getting any younger so age is definitely catching up on me. Overall I am really happy, and I just want to try and build on this as much as possible. Want to build on this momentum and move ahead as we look towards the South Africa game. It was a bit easier to bat later on. I am very happy to get this first double hundred and ever since Rohit got two, I have been hounded to get one as well.

Great, now Gayle's confidence will be sky high when he comes up against us :(

Don't worry, we have the most dangerous bowler in the world, Parnell, i'm sure if he puts his mind to it, he can also get a double hundred (with the ball).......

Won't that be something - Parnell getting Gayle on the first ball!

It's going to be a very interesting match when SA plays WI. It won't be an easy one for SA!
I mean Gayle has got his form back.

LOL at these commentators.

They got every aspect of that review wrong!

It's one match. The fact that he came off vs Zim doesnt mean the end of the world. Yes, he did smack us in the T20's, but ODI's was a different story.

Starting to rain. I'll bet Zim is hoping it thunders down before the 20th over and doesn't stop.

Wasnt against great bowling, but vs the other 200+ scores, this is on by far the biggest ground...probably second biggest to MCG in world.

Gayle is cricketing freak of nature.

His stance, technique and body language screams first ball duck and then he blasts a double with ease.

Reason why he hasnt score a century in one days since 2013. But when it happens team wins 99 percent of the time. Pure match winner.

ZIM 46/3 after 8 overs. :(

I understand a few little birdies, least of all Rob Heuwig, and Hon3n3r etc want to see Abbott play in the next match. They'll probably get their wish.

After today, I can assure you Philander won't be in a rush to get well, but a panicking Donald&Domingo will push him.

Which means Abbott will play in place of Parnell. Because if he doesn't it'll look very bad. They selected him to come in in case things go wrong. Things have gone wrong with Parnell, and if they don't pick him after noises from analysts and a number of fans it will speak volumes about the selectors.

Anyway he'll get the new ball (unlike pParnell), and be taken of the attack after 4 over (as usual). But in my view he's so poor that Gayle, Sammy or Samuels are good enough to send him beyond 10rpo economy.
