Official ICC 2015 CWC thread

Nope.

Football has grown. More and more teams have been added to the Football World Cup over the years. The next European Championships will see 24 teams compete, up from 16 in 2012.

Rugby, through 7s, is growing the sport globally by moving in to non-rugby countries and even allowing them to host regular tournaments. By 2023, 32 teams are set to compete at the Rugby World Cup, up from the current 20, which went up from 16 at the first two World Cups.

Cricket is the only one that will reduce its numbers at its premier tournament and cricket is the only one that actively protects its ''core'' members from new threats.

I'd still say its all about the money for the other sports. Our local rugby for example is becoming a farce with players leaving for more lucrative contracts in countries like Japan.

As to football, just look at the recent scandals in terms of the bidding process for world cups and the cover ups of match fixing. Hell a local government can't even do an investigation into it without the threat of FIFA not allowing the country to compete anymore. Once again all about the money.

7's, its easy to grow a sport when you come off a low base, but I doubt this will ever be a dominant sport in the world.

Then, as for cricket, what incentive is there to develop the sport in minnow countries when you could just dump another tournament in India and make more money?

2.5 billion people already watch cricket, where do you think that base comes from? I'd say more than half is from India/Asia.

The ICC knows where their bread is being buttered and it isn't with the minnows or even South Africa for that matter.

the reality is that they will most likely fail. it's possible but not from this team.

Clearly. 8 down now.

How the hell can they be this ill-disciplined? One can understand if they're chasing and the runrate gets above 8-9 per over, but in setting a total this is pathetic.

this says it all.

Rob: "That's a magnificent stat by James. 8 and 9 having better averages than 2 and 4. Can you imagine that in days of yore. Marshall and Holding having better batting averages than Greenidge and Lloyd. No wonder WI cricket is in such a pitiful state"

Pathetic performance from a pathetic bunch of cricketers. Absolutely no pride in representing their countries. I bet they'll turn it up when the IPL comes around though.

Maybe they should disband the West Indies and let each island represent themselves...

I like this Holder lad though. He seems to be the only one in this team who has some mettle...

I'd add Sammy to the cause as well, I've seen him fight on valiantly on many occasions after his team ****ed up.

Ye agree with you guys, liking this Holder kid..... thought WI missed it not picking Pollard and Bravo though...

Holder's got great attitude and his batting is top-notch for where he bats...however he went for more than a 100 just the other day. So his primary function (the thing that gets him in the team) needs looking at...you guys wanting him in would be swopping a Parnell for a Parnell who can bat a bit.

Nah the kid showed some balls by taking on the responsibility himself, which is more than we can say for guys like Gayle who are too scared to even run a single, like today.

I'm starting to get the impression that the senior guys are trying to sabotage his captaincy because they don't like taking orders from someone so young. Pretty childish, but not beyond the realms of possibility with these IPL money chasers...

Once again this team can blitz anyone in ODIs&T20s. Gayle&Samuels aside, the rest are still young enough to go on for another 3 years at least, so I don't know why anyone is overreacting.

Kraigg Brathwaite, Chris Gayle, Darren Bravo(wk), Marlon Samuels, Kieron Pollard, Dwayne Bravo, Andre Russell, Jason Holder/Jerome Taylor, Sunil Narine, Kemar Roach, Samuel Badree

Having said that, the most important format as far as cricket goes today, even though few would admit it, is T20. And no side can claim to be better than the West Indies.

I don't care what anyone says, but Dwayne Smith, Carter, Ramdin&Simmons virtually means the battign order is 4 men short. No side could do well with that.

And by the way this is the Proteas' first choice scorecard against India:

We couldn;t even do better than the West Indies 2nd choice! Glass houses?

Windies about 150 short here. One of the best batting lineups coming up against one of the most innocuous bowling lineups. Oh, how the Windies must be wishing they had Pollard, Bravo and Narine in their starting XI. Completely different unit with those three players.

Taylor, Roach and Holder will be a handful on this deck imho.

Against any other batting attack I'd whole-heartedly agree with you. These Indians scare me though. Still, anyone can have an off day. We need India to have one now.
