Official ICC 2015 CWC thread

Who? Know it cannot be I.

Was Zcf cause this round was so fscked up.

The battle for runner up spots are really interesting with positions changing after every game. Everyone from position 2 to 9 have a chance.

The points difference between 1st and 2nd is the same as the points difference between 2nd and 16th....thats how big a lead the winner has

Hey man, it's a joint yellow!

Yeah , just checked round 7... missed that. Well done.

And despite a horrific round, me didn't get the wooden spoon
How about we spread the love.... :D

Fingers were pointed, I took it serious just a little bit so hopefully one round will encourage you to get off my back now won;t it (could've been worse if ZIM&ENG didn't snatch defeat from the jaws of victory).Hey credit where it's due. :D

Ireland have had such a pathetic attack, conceded over 400 against SA, plus should've easily conceded over 460 against India today.

WI batted casually to get a modest total, then defended it leisurely to gift the Irish a win when they really should've lost. While ZIM poor fielding an dbowlin gifted them unnecesaary runs, and they almost chased down that target with just a tiny fraction of their batsmen, just as India did today.

Obviously people will talk them up, but upon close inspection, Ireland have been the worst team at this CWC, yet they somehow find themselves in the QFs. Their performances don't add up to where they find themselves now.

The luck of the Irish must be real.

Then again, England have been the worst team at this world cup, but they've also had by far the toughest group.

They not through yet!! WI should qualify ahead of them on the back of superior net run rate.

2011 is proof enough that the Irish are not flukes. They stick around to play while the likes of the Windies look like they couldn't be arsed half the time and the Zimbabweans lost their nerve (no doubt Cusack's PP bowling had a hand in tightening the screws).

They deserve to be where they are. Lord knows the ICC is doing everything it can to stifle the growth of cricket and screw the Associates. I would welcome the Irish knocking the Pakistanis over again as well. Time to stop protecting the under-performing Test nations from the Associates that are improving.

So Ireland need to beat Pakistan to advance to the quarter finals. Cannot expect WI to lose to UAE. Although Ireland can do it, I doubt the ICC would have ordered this result. Wouldn't be good for their revenue, especially as England has just been eliminated.

They probably didn't order yesterday's result either - don't think these minnows give a ****.

Saffers should learn a thing or 2 from India how to chase a high target. Keep calm and win THE ****ING GAME!!! Bloody useless chokers

Boet, ZIM&BD would beat Ireland within 2-and-a-half days in a test match at home. While England may be going home now, and the Irish are used to their conditions, I wouldn't put my money behind Ireland surviving until tea in the 2nd day of a Test match against England if they declare a few overs after tea on the first day.

Hoem&away, the only team that would give Ireland a sniff in Tests are WI. They simply couldn't be bothered.

Tests are a whole different ball game. Ireland simply don't have the bench-strength to compete at that level so the ICC's standpoint is understandable as far as Full member status. Don't forget that a few years ago, a 3rd string ZIM side once dominated the Intercontinetal Cup that Ireland&Afghanistan bully the associates in. That was what really emarassed the ICC and put the brakes on. 2nd string ZIM/BD sides would dominate it today.

Personally I thnk the ICC should force ZIM&BD to play 2 unofficial Test series away to Ireland (not at home). I think a draw for ireland woul dbe very much possible, especially against BD players who never play in those conditions durin the off-season. That way they'd justify giving Ireland Full memeber status. But between you and me, the only country that would genuinely survive and grow is Afghanistan. They;ve got th ebench strength, that Ireland lacks. Question is who will tour thereif no one is going to Pakistan right now?

Well, how do you improve Ireland's chances of building depth when they were only exposed to Full Members on 11 occasions (ODI only) between 2011 and 2015? How do you grow cricket in Ireland by effectively ensuring they will not qualify for the next World Cup? The chances of them developing credible depth isn't increased by freezing them out of top-level ODI cricket as well.

Fully agree that at the end of every ranking period the bottom two teams should be tasked with playing the top-two Associates in test match conditions.

Afghanistan could use the same facilities Pakistan use in Dubai.

But it has to be at home. Can you imagine what would've happened to SA,ZIM&BD if they played their first Tests away from home. India would've beat the Proteas by an innnings in all Tests had they been played(just like the Windies one-off), and they should've whitewashed Rice and his men in the ODIs if someone hadn't played an AB like innings in one of them. Very rare in those days.

11 of the best (or worst) England cricket jokes

What’s the difference between a tea bag and the English cricket team?
A tea bag stays in the cup longer.

When would an English cricketer ever have 100 runs against his name?
When he is bowling.

What’s the England version of LBW?
Lost. Beaten. Walloped.

What did the cricket fan miss when he went to the bar?
The entire England innings.

What do you call an Englishman who’s good with a bat?
A vet.

Who has the easiest job in the English cricket squad?
The person who removes the red ball marks from the bats.

What does an Englishman put in his hands to guarantee there’s a wicket next ball?
A bat.

What is the height of optimism?
An English batsman putting on sunscreen.

What is the main function of the English cricket coach?
To transport the team from the hotel to the ground.

Why don’t English fielders need pre-tour travel injections?
Because they never catch anything.

What advantage does Eoin Morgan have over his team-mates?
At least he can say he’s not English.

With this sort of rhetoric, you have just deposed ZCF as least desirable commenter (poster?) in this thread. Enough said.

I'm pretty sure we'd manage to chase down a target from Ireland.

Yup. 100% agree.

I am just as disappointed as the next guy (okay, maybe not as morbidly depressed or volatile as DarkSpectre :erm:), but I cannot forget some of the amazing performances South Africa has achieved. Yeah, we suck in chasing. Yeah, we have lost to lower ranking teams.

Need to remember though that India couldn't buy a game in the tri-series against Australia and England (yip! that's right DarkSpectre, England!). IIRC they lost all their games. Teams all go through low points. Just unfortunate that ours come in tournaments. In bi-laterals we usually thump the opposition.

Just need to remain positive that they bounce back against SL no matter what the outcome of the toss.

If you look at all time ODI win/loss percentage for all teams, its only SA & Aus who have a 64% win ratio. The rest of the teams have mid to low 50s. If you take into consideration that the teams also play against weaker teams like Zim, Bang and an associate every now and then, then even the best teams dont have much more than a 50/50 chance to win against the top 6 teams.

You need to win three knockout games in a row to lift the cup and no team can claim they should win it as statistically you should lose at least one of those games. It is all about peaking at the right time. Teams go through periods when they win more and then lose more.
