Official ICC World T20 thread

Agreed. I think Kallis is opening so that he gets more time to get set, then pick up tempo...if he comes in later he would have to go hard from start.

However Gibbs seems wasted at 3. Have him open , throw the bat and if it works they take control. If he loses wicket early, then still enough overs for Kallis to get off to normal start.

cheers

Yup the problem i foresee with kallis is in a big game if he goes into his shell and gets bogged down like only kallis can do then he puts all sorts of pressure on our batsmen to slogg every other delivery.

Those first 6 overs need to be exploited and there are very few in the world better at exploiting those first 6 overs than gibbs.

anyways i guess we will see when we play the bigger strong teams just how kallis goes and for SA's sake i hope we don't ever see kallis going into his shell and getting bogged down.

Did you guys not see the game against NZ? Or are they not a good team?

Well i don't think they have quality bowlers like india, sri lanka for instance so no i don't think they are that good in all honesty.

So does 23 off 24 deliveries make him amazing or what? Not sure your point in the NZ game. 14 runs came from 2 fours and 1 six, so he scored 9 off 21 deliveries without boundries how is that amazing?

Never said it was amazing but just remind me what the other batsmen did again?

Let's wait and see man :) who shows up in the really big games, the must win games and i hope they all do.

Gibbs is a destroyer like jayasuria and gayle :) You don't see sri lanka and west indies playing them at no3 very often :p

The other batsmen is batting at 3, explain to me again why kallis was dropped for the last world 20 cup?

He then made a big noise and threatened to leave and now he is in the team opening because they know they cannot afford kallis to slow us down later on.

No he is in the team because he is good.... Or did I miss the part where you are Kapel dev in real life? (Thats one of the few guys with a record like Kallis)

In the last T20 WC the Aussies said they were baffled by the choice not to include Kallis. Ponting said if kallis was playing for Aus there would have been a place for him every day of the week.... But hay I mean the aussies are a 2de rate team

Go look at Kallis in the IPL.. He is doing great. Also as to your comment above about the other batsmen coming in at 3... Gibbs came in after about 7 overs? So there are 13 overs left...

Kallis's strike rate thus far:
  • vs Scotland - 154.83%
  • vs New Zealand - 104.34%
  • vs England - 116.32%

So he isn't doing too badly ie. he has scored at better than run a ball in all innings so far.

Dont think quoting Ponting means much...:p
But I agree with having kallis in the team, but not opening. He is security.
Smith opens with Ab, then Gibbs then Kallis.

Yes because kallis is the most attacking "finnisher"

What are you guys smoking, I also want some :p:D

:D

Lol, happy for Roelf. Great to see him shift the pressure back onto the batsmen after being hit for 10+ in that one over (he then took 2 wickets IIRC in the next over).

Competitive bloke ol' Roelf.

Lol, yeah he is our little bulldog :p

I played action cricket against him for a long time and he is very very competitive but also has time for a hearty laugh on the field.

Cool...

Yeah he looks like a fun guy that likes to have a laugh.

Look i am not saying kallis is not a good player by no means, i am just saying that not opening with gibbs is possibly wasting 6 overs of gibbs greatness.

You cannot tell me kallis is more destructive than gibbs and in all honesty we have no idea how many runs gibbs would have had he opened.

Yes but Kallis IS scoring the runs.

If it aint broke, don't fix it.....
