Man City Owners want to win "every trophy available"
Manchester City's new owners have made their intentions clear after their dramatic takeover of the Manchester club. The Abu Dhabi United Group (ADUG), which is set to take over from Thaksin Shinawatra, has already shocked the football world by comleteing the signing of Brazilian striker Robinho for a brittish transfer record of 32.5 million pounds and have now set their sights at winning every trophy available next season.

"We would like to be a lot better than last season, and we are eager for trophies next season,"

"We would like to see Manchester City fighting for trophies in every tournament," said ADUG spokesman Dr Sulaiman Al-Fahim.

"We don't just want Manchester City to be challenging for trophies in England, but also in the Champions League. We want them to be in for every trophy available."

High ambitions for a club who have not won a trophy since the League Cup in 1976, but Al-Fahim believes the funds available to manager Mark Hughes should help bring silverware.

City fans have welcomed their new found riches and will now finally be able to match their city rivals United when it comes to financial power.

"We are very, very lucky - Manchester City FC are a very big club and it's a wonderful thing for them.

"It's about time we had little a bit of luck. A royal family has taken us over and we can compete with the biggest clubs in the country and in fact anybody in the world now." said former Man city star Mike Summerbee.

In a statement released on Monday, ADUG said the aim would be for City to compete in the Champions League in the 2009-10 campaign, which would require a top-four finish this season.

Although the club have started the season well and are third in the table after three games, Al-Fahim appeared to acknowledge the real hunt for trophies would begin next season.

"A place in the Champions League is quite a jump from last season, but we are ready to sit down with the manager, find out the players he would like, and bring the right players into the club," Al-Fahim added.

And financial advisor Amanda Stavely, who brokered the Abu Dhabi deal, said the Manchester club proved an entincing prospect.

"The Premier League without doubt as a sporting brand is a great opportunity. We should be very proud of British football," she said.
"Any outside or foreign investor can only be excited to get involved in world-class league. Manchester City sells itself."

So there's bound to be a few man City fans coming out of the closet now:)
If not it will be interesting to follow the richest club in Englands progress this season.

Man City has prospective new (rich) owners and all the city roaches crawl out from under their rocks :p

Well just look at what Roman has done for the Chelsea "supporters".

It promises to be a great show of - I can do better.

I guess their 32Mil Pound transfer is a loud and clear statement of intent.

Its early days yet. But it will add some extra excitement.

Do you know the only club in the top 10 of the EPL without any debt is Chelsea, Manure united have the most debt.I wonder if Man city now will be joining Chelsea as another debt free club.

No it isn't chelsea do have debt, it's just in the form of interest free loans courtesy of Roman.

However, there is no doubt that the club remains wholly reliant on Abramovich's continued funding. Chelsea's chairman, Bruce Buck, has stressed that Abramovich "loves football" and will not "walk away" from Chelsea.

If the owner's enthusiasm were ever to wane, and Abramovich decided he did want his loan back, the accounts show that Chelsea would have 18 months to find the money.

True. the only reason why they dont have debt is because their owner is a zillionaire. If romans sells the club they will be knee deep in depbt. So the Club is in debt...

I’ll start outside of the club very quickly just because I find this to be absolutely brilliant. Credit to the Guardian for this report:

Manchester City’s new owners are ready to spend a staggering £135 million to bring Cristiano Ronaldo across town.

The new owner of Manchester City, Dr Sulaiman Al-Fahim, has intimated that Abu Dhabi United Group for Development and Investment (ADUG) could back a bid for Manchester United winger Ronaldo as early as January.

“Ronaldo has said he wants to play for the biggest club in the world, so we will see in January if he is serious,” Al-Fahim said in The Guardian.

“Real Madrid were estimating his value at $160million (£90m) but for a player like that, to actually get him, will cost a lot more; I would think $240million (£135m). But why not? We are going to be the biggest club in the world, bigger than both Real Madrid and Manchester United.”

Al-Fahim added: “We want a team who can win the UEFA Champions League. We’re not just going to spend money on anyone, but if we can get the biggest players in the world, and of course if the manager wants them, then we will get them.”

Anil Bhoyrul, the Editorial Director of Arabian Business.com and friend of Dr Sulaiman Al-Fahim told TalkSPORT: “I have a list of the players Dr Sulaiman wants to go out and bid for. One is Ronaldo. He says he doesn’t have a problem tabling a £120million bid, just to do it and see what the reaction is. His tactic is to say to Manchester United and Chelsea, ‘hey, we’re in town’.

“He also rates Torres and Fabregas. With Ronaldo, he thinks they are the three best players in the world.”

:eek::eek::eek:

What I can't understand is, the top players already get payed such ridiculous salaries. Why would they even want more money? What more could they possibly buy that they can't now?

The club isnt in debt, the club itself owes nothing, If he sold the club to a new owner, the new owner would have no debt to repay.
They are worth 764mil and have 0% debt

I'd rather have two Ferrari's instead of one if I could afford it. :D

I'm not gona argue about chelsea's financial state but i find it hard to believe that they will not be in debt if Roman walks away. Just look at how much they lost on the veron, mutu, schevchenko and wright-phillips deals.

I also remember Kenyon saying a while back that they plan to break even by 2010?
